Nice to know the Geek Squad SNOOP through your computer looking for porn , bank info or anything else they deem worthy of snooping at.... who made them the fbi anyway ?

As much as I dislike kiddie porn I dislike more the geek squad snooping through systems....

Who do they think they are anyway.... if they are looking at your files I wonder what more they are looking at.... I wonder how many identity thefts can be related to the geek squad?

Disgusting!
I think that someone so sick to check out child pornography will commit a sexual crime against a child at any momment.
For those "Constitutional Rights" defendants:
I'd rather hear of all the computers of this country being spied on than watching in the news that a child was sexualy molested or raped.
But, well I am more concerned about being a mother and caring for my and other's children than about my constitutional rights.

I am a parent and I happen to agree with with Scott and KcK. The Geek Squad had no business looking at his files. I do believe that God puts people in your life for a reason and perhaps this particular instance is a good example of it. But, I think Best Buy needs to look at their corporate policy of the Geek Squad snooping through files. Not good!

When it comes to kiddie porn, I have no problem with Best Buy employees reporting this incident to police. I believe the Government should pass a law eliminating any liability for any person or business from invasion of privacy rights with regards to pornography with children. People should have no right to view this material, and people who watch and distribute this garbage should receive stiff punishments. Distributors should certainly receive a life sentance, possibly the death penalty. The sickos who make this stuff do it because people will pay. By watching this crap, you are just as at fault for hurting an innocent child.

I'm also a parent, and while I find child porn the most despicable corruption, I question the validity of going through what must obviously be photo files.
I'm curious if it might be corporate policy to look for these files (and what expenditure of time, or maybe Homeland Security has them looking for other things.
Or maybe some Geek with too much time on his hands at work?
This is one of the ways these sickos are caught!

Personally, I have no interest in kids. Can't stand to be near them, but you folks are really putting him down and he really didn't do anything other than look at a picture. It isn't like he was having sex with one of them.

I'm glad they got this guy off the street. That said I guess that we can assume that the Geek Squad will do whatever they want with whatever is on your computer. What would they do if they came across a file full of your clients credit card numbers, medical records, research & development secrets, book, music or movie files you paid for that they might assume you downloaded illegally, password files to your bank or brokerage account and the list goes on. I guess the simple rule here is 1. Don't do anything illegal on you computer. 2. Encrypt all your files if you need privacy for sensitive data.

Not that I'm defending the pedo.

Why confess?, you did not have the computer last.

Who to say the bestbuy geeks did not upload them?, highly unlikely but there is a chance.

Blame it on a virus, that you or bestbuy got that puts porn on your computer.

Go to your hardrives manufacture webpage and download seatools etc
and do a zero fill format before
you hand over a computer with personal info.

Sorry, but that's not the point. Yes, the guy is a pervert BUT, when you take your computer to Best Buy for a repair, do you really want the tech guy snooping around your files? Bank records, financial info etc.?

The tech guy does NOT need to look at your files to fix the computer.

Glad Geeksquad caught this guy- first time I ever heard Geeksquad doing something right. I laughed out loud when I heard this guy got caught from Geeksquad- if you're dumb enough to have them fix your computer your dumb enough to get caught also LOL.
Putting the pedophile issue aside for a moment, I have heard that both Geeksquad and Firedog "snoop" around on people's computer (a friend of mine installed a program that 'records' all activity on a computer) and they went through all of his personal files including tax records, photos, etc. Kind of scary

To Dupont,

I guess you are stupid. I guess I will have to spell it out for you. A parent of what you ask? I have a grown daughter aged 27. I do not think people that prey on children should be entitled to any civil rights, but I have issues with the fact that the Geek Squad searching files on computers. I have had my identity stolen and it is something that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. Looking at private files is an invasion of privacy and agree that Best Buy will probably settle a million dollar lawsuit over this.

What Geek Squad did was not legal and was unethical. They searched through his files looking for child porn. Every PC Tech does it. When they found the child porn it became and illegal search unless a contract was signed by the customer and geek squad allowing them to search and views files on the PC. Which most likely did not happen. When confronted the customer confessed and was charged. The customer could have denied the files were his or denied knowledge the files existed and that would have been the end of that.

So many people (I'd say most of them men) worried about the Geek Squad snooping thru private files, which constitutes a violation of privacy rights, and no ONE comment on the rights of these poor children to be respected, cared for and not used for the purpose of creating pornographical material and make money.
How sad!!!!

I do hope that BestBuy settles for a million dollars ove this, the same way that I hope that then the money will be taken away from the jerk that enjoys child pornography so that the money can be used to help children abused and raped by these pieces of crap to go back in their feet and get all the psychological help that they need to live an average adult life.

What do you expect in a society that protects adults (Police) more than they protect children.

I am not saying we should not protect the Police and execute all those who kills them, but we should first start by protecting the children and electricute all those who harms and/ or kills them.

If you ask me whether I prefer that cop killers get the electric chair over child killers the answer is a RESOUNDING NO.

If only one of the two are eligible for the electric chair then I would choose child killers.

Protect those who cannot protect themselves.

How big of us a society to protect adults (police) more than we protect children.

You kill a child, skip 'GO' and go straight to the electric chair. Same if you kill a cop.

Thats a win win situation.

So say one, so say we all.

OK, let's say the computer wasn't booting up due to file damage. Geek Squad runs a back up on his profile to restore later. They fix the machine and restores the files. They need to test some files to make sure they open. They find a file called "Little Bobby in Bondage"...WHAT WOULD YOU DO???
