Wow you don't know much about peolice officers. Did you know that no matter why they pull you over you still have to obey the law and do what they say? Clearly the woman was NOT cooperating and then out of nowhere the officer was assaulted with a weapon. CLEARLY the man was well enough to get out of the car and beat the officer with is cane. He is not a bully, he was doing his job and following procedures. Instead of attacking this officer, maybe you should respect him and what he does for the citizens on a daily basis. I am proud of him and I would hope that you would get off your high horse and realize that no one is above the law. If she would have listened to the officer the whole issue would have been resolved. Instead she ran her mouth off, didn't listen and then the policeman was the one who was attacked...and who was the bully?????? Get a clue.

I think the cop got what he had coming. Her blinkers where on and if it was His momma I don't think it would have been that way. 99.9% of the police up there are RACIST PETTY and they don't respect their damn selves. They might as well walk around with they white hoods and sheets on(KKK) It's time somebody did something so they can see how bad the police treat African Americans up there. I myself got pulled over for walking so that shows there is a problem there.

he got 1 year she got off petoskey police are in trouble cause they don't know their own laws. She was stopped he wasn't so it was just assulting an officer so in other words they put theirselves in double jeopardy.

Oh and by the way- All laws are the same in the State of Michigan unless its a local ordinance. Petoskey doesn't have "their own laws".

Yes, Mr. & Mrs. Burks behaved like a menace to society during the stop (any idiot can observe the video). Yes, they are admittedly a chronic pain-in-the-ass. But, that is beside the point.
The point of the previous post is that law requires police officers to have justification for making a traffic stop. It is a cherished right we enjoy in the U.S. The jury in this case was highly suspicious there was manufactured cause - that is part of the reason the Burks' penalty was not more severe. If it is determined that there was manufactured cause for a traffic stop, the subsequent events, barring felonies, are quashed.
Obviously, Troxel pulled these people over because they're easily identifiable in Petoskey and because they have a record. The point is that police officers do not have the right to manufacture cause, regardless of intentions, previous arrests, the result of the stop,. Plain and simple, love it or hate it - that is the law and thank God it exists.
If you are advocating that cops be able to pull people over for reasons outside of protocol, then you are a fool.
