I recently came to Kalkaska - living with a friend for now, hoping to find some sort of employment around Kalkaska - acme - williams burg - TC.

I've bought the last 2 weeks worth of record eagle and kalkaska voice papers.
The Sunday papers are what seems to be the best, but still not much at all as far as work goes.

Now I will be posting ads on the internet, and at local gorcerie stores and the like hoping for some sort od work!!

question to the TC residients:
Would I get in trouble (legally) if I was to stand in front of Home depot holding a sign that says: I'm here legally and will work for cash

Thats what I am thinking of for my next job

There are no jobs in Traverse City

maybe you could pick up 3 hours a week at a fast food

The article saying that there are jobs here is a lie

The city tourism people want you to think that TC is a wonderful flawless place, and not the little Detroit that it is

You are correct. When you say Job, I think they mean the 7 dollar an hour job. 50 a week on Gas, 200 a month car payment, 80 a month insurance, 20 a month on maitenaence. 350 amonth to put something roadworthy on the road. That does not include living. If you skip eating you Might survive???

we are all starving

roadworthy? what? you dont want to put some rust bucket on the road?

TC is for white bread people.... its kept alive by the klepotcrats who think the rich olde snow birds need a place to go out to on weekends.

simple solution would be to confiscate property from people that dont live 12 months a year in michigan.

of course i am joking.. duhh.. i dont believe in taxation without representation, but lots of these snowbirds live in florida, texas, arizona, they no longer vote in michigan.

but its the solution that jenny granholm will probably get around to, since they have taxed everything else.

therefore when government starts to seize their properties, no one will care.

michigan government is in horrible shape.

our government thinks its wonderful to RAISE business taxes on everyone, and then pick and chose which firms (those that spend money lobbying politicians) get these tax funds to build their businesses.

The cost of living up here is higher than the Detroit area and the salaries run about 2/3. The jobs that are available are just about all seasonal. There is very little full time year around work available and the few jobs that exist go to relatives or third generation locals. If you come up here looking for work you better have lots of front money for some sort of family run business that will require lots of hours. If you do manage to find something in Traverse City don't plan on driving a great distance to a home in the country because the snowy roads are mean.
That said, I retired up here after 50 years in the city and don't ever want to go south of Clare again.
