gotta love it. barb, my wages have been frozen for over three years now. my 401k is no longer being contributed to by my employer. these things are going on everywhere. welcome to the real world. and by the way, if the smartboard breaks down, just pick up a dry erase marker and finish the day.

at least you have a "freeze". i have been with a company since 2008 with no increase and no extra vacation time and had holiday pay taken. enjoy the fact you have a job and make the best of a temporary situation. ask yourself "Am I still employed?" SIMPLE QUESTION, SIMPLE ANSWER.

Since a marked number of school districts "blew" their stimulus monies on programs they were told not to use that money for...the local property owners will have to again foot the bill for their mistakes, the cycle never ends!!

I commend these teachers for taking a 2.5 year freeze. To the best of my knowledge that is the most in the entire state. Many locals will accept no freeze and have been willing to watch their fellow teachers lose their jobs. I understand Ms Biegler's frustration, but there is another side. When you have been receiving annual increases 2X the rate of inflation and perhaps 3X the average private sector freeze, it is difficult for a Board to balance the budget under the current circumstances. As I understand it, they take a 2.5 yr freeze and then go to 4.17% annual increases for 1.5 years. That equates roughly, to a 1.5% annual compounded increase over the 4 years. Most people in the private sector would say that is pretty good. I am not certain but I think the teachers and administrators in this district are the highest paid in Berks County with some principals making as much as $125,000 and some teachers $90,000. It is all relative

Awww....poor babies take pay freeze. I'm a college grad & now realize I should have gone into teaching. Hmmm...90k for a year and get two summer months off. Best benefits & retirement plans that can be had. Little matching payments required for those plans. Stable employment that's backed by the full faith and credit of other american homeowners or they lose their residence. Unions who protect me and send my dues to elect politicians who promote more salary and benefits for me....and all the rest of the working class make these payments with jobs that are increasingly low paying retail oriented vs manufacturing oriented positions. Feels like we're twirling around in a large white bowl with a hole in the bottom.

DON'T GO INTO TEACHING! There are no jobs. Trust me and the many friend who are sitting on education degrees with nothing to do with them. So it isn't really 90K, try 16K.

I'm not complaing about my own position, but about a system that doesn't pass the smell test.....and 16k...please spare me, you aren't living in the real world. You should have recieved better grades and you might now be part of the working class elite.

Good luck making 90K with teaching. If you can last at least 30 years, you may see it... but not anytime soon.
