To All Concerned:
To all of the good folks that called me and spoke with me regarding the removal of the trees in “The Walk” to the inner-core parking lot in Boyertown, please KNOW that I share your anguish and concerns over the removal of those trees.
It is a fact that Boyertown is designated a “Tree City U.S.A.”. Unfortunately, our leaders in Boyertown envision it as something entirely different from its intended purpose given the fact that they all voted to remove the trees from “The Walk” containing benches for people to sit in shade. Many elderly people enjoyed sitting there given the shade provided by the beautiful trees.
For me, it very sadly ends a battle to keep those trees in place. My battle to keep those trees in place started with the establishment of Building A Better Boyertown’s Walk into the inner-core parking lot. Mr. Charles Haddad launched an effort to remove the trees to give the lights more emphasis. At the same time, they wanted the tree on the corner removed for better viewing of the portrait on the building of the South side entrance to the inner-core lot.
At the Borough Meeting, Borough Manager Spaide, indicated only two trees would be removed; however, even the corner tree was removed. What a masterful deception, Mrs. Spaide!
My first response was to call for our ejection from the “Tree City” program; however, following “prayer” and rational consideration, I decided that what Boyertown needs to do is to remove our inconsiderate leaders starting with Mayor Deery and her husband, President of Council, Mr. Deery. Believe me, the rest will get the message and develop enough courage to stand-up as leaders and express their OWN views. At the same time, the Borough of Boyertown needs a Borough Manager of integrity.
Boyertown Borough Officials will tell you that the tree roots were growing into an adjoining building; however, the roots could have been severed without removing them. At the same time, the third tree upon the corner wasn’t even involved or considered for removal.
Also, they will tell you that they will replace the trees with other trees- trees that scarcely provide enough shade for an Earthworm!
If this were the only problem with Boyertown Government, we could probably excuse it as a one-time deception; however, Boyertown has a bushel full of problems that are simply awaiting new leadership and direction.
Some of The Borough of Boyertown’s problems have resulted in hardship upon its residents that was created and caused by Official Boyertown Borough Decisions, and they choose to disregard those problems while squandering funds that could be applied to resolving the serious issues.
