The driver of the truck is actually the uncle of the father of the little boy. My thoughts and prayers go out to all families involved. Trik wrote: I'm still curious to know the connection between the driver and the young boy. Why were they in a car together? Were they related? And... how weird is it that the truck driver has the same name as the boy. Weird.

mom of 4 - i agree she is controlled however her eeg is not clear, so i will make the decision on this one. not the doc. my daughter CAN NOT cross a street (age 14) she thinks they will stop for her, ontop of they just confirmed after an 8 year battle that she has pdd-nos, adhd, etc. so why the heck would i let her with that also.

I know the family involved. The mother was going through a divorce and was on good terms with the childs father who did NOT live with her, he did however go to her home to see his children. Jesse was a good man and a great step dad to those boys. Nicky was in a car seat, restrained in the backseat in the middle...They don't know if Jesse had a stroke, seizure or anything yet until autoposy comes back. The driver of the dumbtruck was no relation..was just same last name. Please understand people who know this family are reading these comments and the hurtfullness doesn't help...a man and a child died. Please have some compassion because theres a mother and a child and a father grieving very hard right now.

There is just no way around it. Pennsylvanians cannot drive anything that goes faster than 15mph. You simply can't think that fast. Every time my wife and kids leave the house my worst nightmare is some inbred hillbilly plowing into them with like in this case, a dump truck, or even just one of these Billy Bobs in a regular pickup truck. This is why Germany has the Autobahn. They seem to have kicked out all of the Germans that can't drive, and sent them here to PA. Save a life, walk instead. How foolish you are. Thanks for adding absolutely NOTHING to this thread.

Do You Have A Clue wrote: this is a very sad story, but i have to say one thing, my daughter suffers seizures and she should be able to drive next year, WELL NOT. the oddest thing is her neuro thinks i should let her because she is controlled. okay so if and when something happens am i suppose to say, maybe i should have trusted my instinct, nope, i will explain to my daughter why for ALL safety reasons i will not let her drive. So you are going to make her stay at home all the time? Not hang out with her friends, go out with her friends, work, etc.? Frankly, if she is CONTROLLED, she is not a big risk. I have seizures now and again (petit mal) ones, and my doctor AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY has said that it is just fine for me to drive, since they are few and far between (1 a week at most, and minor at that). The fact is that today.... it is a necessity to drive, and you are just going to have to let your daughter drive. Or, ferry her everywhere yourself? Which are you more willing to do?

Mom of 4 wrote: <quoted text> My sister suffered from seizures when she was in her late teens, and her nuerologist said she could not have a drivers license until she had been seizure free for a year. I think that is a good policy. It isn't a good policy, because then they are at the mercy of other people for transportation, job security, etc. That is the main reason why the state guidelines say that as long as someone has less than a certain number of seizures a week, and no more than 1 'grand mal' seizure a week, they are okay to drive.

Christopher,
Can you cross a street safely without adult assistance, can you walk through a parking lot without adult assistance, do you understand that if there is something on a stove and the stove is on and hot you cant touch it? I am sure you can, MY daughter CANT. She does not only have seizures, she has other medical issues, it is not only because of the seizures, she is a very complicated case, her neuro even agrees. HOWEVER, I am not against her driving once she is cleared from the neuro and the therapists that believe she will not be a threat to herself or society for common sense things like crossing a street.

there wrote: <quoted text> I was across the street when this happened. It would not have mattered the ENTIRE passager area of the car was flattened - front and back seats. Even if it was found that the child was not in a proper restraint it would not of saved him. What a shame... Yeah. Some of us could gather that from the headline. Especially with keywords "Dead" and "Dumptruck". I can't believe how some people like (mom 4 boys) have the need to question every f'ng thing that happens, to make themselves feel superior. My GOD! A child is dead and people have a deep seeded desire to trash victims and lay blame? Unbelievable. In this case, had the child been UNRESTRAINED and hanging out the opposite window getting air like a dog, he'd probably be alive by virtue of getting ejected. At least he may have stood a chance. Condolences to these victims families and the dump truck driver who must be feeling terrible as well.
