I am trying to take an informal survey of how everyone is getting their internet connectivity, how much does it cost you & are you happy with your service/speed/support.

Please include the following: Current company, speed (if not dialup), cost, contract Y/N, happy with them or would you switch to another provider who offered wireless broadband if you had a choice or could break the contract?

Dial up. Would change in an instant. However would not be willing to install the tower needed to obtain line of site for 2.4 GZ. no tower close enough that i am aware to support 900mhz unless the range has been increased.

happy. Verizon DSL. Yearly contract that breaks down to about $24.00 per month if I recollect. Just ran a benchmark test am am running @81kb/s. That's about average run. At times run well over that. I'd have to have more info before I'd switch but am always open to the possibility if it's faster, better or less expensive or any combination of those.

Mine is the same as chasecityrez with Verizon DSL. Although I'm very pleased I would enertain change if it was faster or cost less.

The friends of mine who have the issues with their internet being slow are out range for Verizon or Comcast and have to use dialup.

My current wireless system, located in Baskerville (covering up to 9 miles in radius from the site), delivers 768k-2.25mbps page display or 80-200kbps file download speed.

No contract involved with wifidx.blogspot.com service. To lock you into a contract means they don't get up in the morning & seek to be the best. I do & have happy customers who have passed the word on to others.

is your system 900Mhz or 2.4 Ghz. Or is it another frequency. I am in skipwith so it may strech the 9 mile limit. Does your system require line of site. If it can make it I am willing to try it as long as I dont have to put up a huge tower.

It is a 900 NLOS, unlike 2.4 which is LOS. If you email me your street address, I'll do a profile on mapping software to see if it is possible to get you connected. I doubt you will need any tower.

If it might work, I do not charge for signal surveys. I can run the survey from my truck, as I am outfitted with a laptop, power inverter, system radio & antenna stand, so I am fully portable for surveys without having to enter your home!

wifidx.blogspot.com <--- for my email address

Thanks!

We are one of the other ISP's trying to gain access to the Boydton area. I won't get into the legalities as they are extensive. I will say that we cover and /or have towers in the works to cover Mecklenburg county from the Halifax border to Boydton. Hopefully we will have our tower up in Skipwith within the next month or so. We are a full service Wireless Broadband Internet Supplier. We use a 900Mhz, point-multipoint system. Our rates are very competitive, no contract, free site survey, and 24/7 customer service. We are like a "sister" company to broadband4all.
Our staff also teaches free courses on basic intro to computers and basic webpage design. An evening course will be coming up in Nov. at the Verizon Learning Center in Clarksville. If interested let me know.

WISP & myself are going to be putting up a site off Jones Road so you only have to wait a little while longer. After years of dialup, who can't wait a few more weeks right?

The steel for the tower has been ordered... We are going up with it & could potentially have service available in late November or early December...

As you can see from the post from broadband4all, as local companies we do listen to our potential customers. We employee local people, purchase from local businesses whenever we can and support the local community. We are trying to reach those that the "big" companies won't/can't.
In order for us to bring services to you we would appreciate your voice of support, both at town and county levels.

I'm on the outskirts of Chase City, I am lucky to even be able to get broadband, a couple that live on the same road closer to chase city in fact they are considered to be "In-Town" cant even get it! Weird to say the least. I have verizon dsl, happy with it most of the time, I dont like the email service and a few other things but hey, beats dial up! I may be interested in switching if the email was better and maybe the price was a little better. I'm not on a contract or anything. What if anything comes with your service? I get so much space for a personal web site for instance. How many email addresses? not for aliases but for family members?

What really made me MAD about verizon was I got a call from Direct TV one saturday and was told for one low price I could have my phone, my internet,(verizon broadband) and Direct TV, when I stated I already had all three services but for a higher price I was told sorry, you dont qualify! This was for NEW customers only not people that already had the service! Well they shouldnt have called an existing customer and make her mad and offer her something she couldnt have......I have a phone for 60.00 a month, direct tv for 60.00 a month and verizon dsl for 29.00 a month.New customers could have all of those for 99.00 a month. yup, made me MAD. So would I switch? Yup I would. Bout time they had some competition!

I know people that would die for broadband, I have not heard or seen anything advertised, reading this blog is the first time I have heard of a tower in Baskerville. I have friends that live on Scottscross roads in chase city ( off of 47) I wonder if they could use the baskerville tower?

thanx!

If I can't reach you, there will be a tower going up off 49 that can easily serve you. Weeks away from entering that neighborhood.

We need to stay in touch about "current events"... Mind you, Thursday is the T-minus-zero time for that "little thing of ours...

Shoot me an email please...

Hello All,

In the continuing effort to bring basic choice in broadband services, I am asking anyone who wants or needs it, to attend the meeting in Boydton Town Hall on 11/13 @ 7:30PM. Even if you live in the County, this battle has to start somewhere. We need your support by attending & if you are troubled by the lack of progress in Information Technology available "around here", voice your opinion during the "Public Comments"period!

It appears that as of this morning (Monday), our final offer to mediate the issue by meeting with the Town Council, will continue to be ignored right to the deadline of Thursday. The truth is this is the first step in the FCC complaint process. Town officials have yet to take us seriously in any explanation of Federal law (Communications Act of 1996, section 704) as it clearly applies to the denial of collocation of comparable services, on publicly owned structures. If we don't have a meeting arranged by this Friday 10/26, step 2 will be filed with the FCC. It will be headed to Federal Court in Richmond or DC!

Even if you do not make a comment, we need to pack that room with people because until that happens, the Council & the "Mayor" thinks no one is watching or cares about what public "officials" are doing on behalf of those who put them "in charge" of the Town's best interests.

Please prove them wrong by attending the meeting & making your concerns known!

Thank You for your continued support!

Hello backatcha broadband4all,
thanx for the reply...:) I will definetly let everyone i come into contact with about the new tower. that will great for all those people that are using dial up.

I'm afraid I will have to keep verizon for awhile because of the cost.

Broadband and whisp: Do you have all the employees you need at this time? I know my way around a computer and I do alot of publishing work.
By the way maybe I missed it, but what is the name of your company so when I do talk about it I can recommend you?

thanx!
