Mr. Swant being charged for a 5th OWI and it's reported that he has to "submit to alcohol assessment and treatment". Did he not have to do that the first time? Doesn't our system get the point yet that someone with alcohol or drug issues will not change till they are ready? Or is this a way the system gets additional funds?

The core problem is that society tolerates the use of alcohol. Drunk drivers kill innocent people and cause such severe pain and trauma to families every day. Why, as a society do we allow it? Join MADD, push your polititions to pass tougher laws. But, really, will they? will you? Alcohol is the drug of choice and has been for decades. Only a change of heart will solve this problem.
