If the deputy had probable cause to search he or she should have searched or gotten a warrant while warning the principal to not interfere. Double standard and incompetent law enforcement written all over this deal.
But the usually policy had always been to pull that student out of class by admin and then law enforcement was allowed to look in car. That's what was done at all the other schools and what was done at south warren for EVERY car but the two. That's the point. Why different standard for those two kids.

Which was more reason for the deputies to continue without the school involvement. Hate to break it to Mr.Cook, it might be his school but if a
potential crime develops, he no longer has a say.

I'm sure that the deputies didn't want to ruffle the feathers of their higher ups but it seems like this principal needed to be put in his place and informed of his role in society.

He is retiring at the end of the year. So he would not care. Bottom line is, the kid should not have been let leave. They got to search the one car, how did the other kid get off the school grounds before the police searched the car ? If the policy is "call the parents", was wasn't the vehicle held, call the parents, get the student, search the vehicle ? So if i get pulled over, cops suspect drugs, but do not have a warrant to search my car, i can just leave before they get a warrant ? Looks like Ole Barney Phife may have screwed up big time. I know the school was wrong also, BUT the officers could have stood by the vehicle until the parents where notified. Guarantee you it was a rich, well known parent of the kid. Very bad police work, and very bad handling or the situation of the school. Double standards at its finest.

Nope, if the vehicle is operational and the cops suspect drugs, they can search it without warrants.

Parked, unoccupied cars are a different story.

This has been tried in court. The cars on school property can be searched as well as lockers. Been going on for a long time till this happened

This is ACLU warning students that search is legal. Purses lockers cars etc. all they need is probable cause and that is listed as police police dogs other students etc. you have little rights on school property.

I was referring to bypassing the school administrators and their involvement in the process

School personnel called for the search.

Some cars were searched.

School personnel interfered to protect some.

You're missing the point...two sets of rules. One for student-athletes and another for other students. That is the issue here.

Been out of town and out of touch a bit, so all I can say to this thread is WOW. This doesn't look good on school personnel.

And to "Spartan hold up"...... You're NUTS. I won't say BG or GW won't be right there, but SW won't be "the worst school."
