Chuck's hasn't announced they are closing down any of their locations. What happened was the company that purchased the business from the Chuck Evan's family years back, a company named UPL based out of Indiana, went under recently and the purchaser(s) of the assets didn't want to purchase the Chuck's stores. This is because Chuck's was UPL's only chain of liquor stores outside of Indiana, not because Liquor Barn is "taking over". I work as a regional administrator for a liquor distributor in Kentucky and I can tell you for sure that Liquor Barn (in Bowling Green at least) did well their opening month but since then their sales have fallen off and they have laid off a number of employees as well as cutting back on their ordering; in other words, they are by no means "taking over". It takes A LOT of money to keep a store the size of Liquor Barn afloat, especially now that word has gotten out that their prices aren't that much better (if at all) than their biggest competitors and the store is super inconvenient to get into/out of. From what I can tell, Three Springs Chucks and Louisville Road Chucks are surviving, but the other two locations (Veterans and Hartland) may close in the not so distant future. This is because the competition is simply too high in Bowling Green now for these two stores to stay open; they are breathing their last breathes now that UPL isn't there to back them up financially. Yes we now do have a Liquor Barn that we can partially blame for Chuck's slowing sales, but we also have a number of quality locally owned retailers here that have really picked up their game lately. Shenanigan's and Wino's Depot definitely come to mind as examples of stores that have dumped large amounts of time into improving their staff, selection and prices. Greenwood Spirits has also stepped up their game and on a smaller scale Fairview Liquors. Liquor Barn coming to Bowling Green just served as a wake up call to the other powerhouse local shops rather than delivering an intended "kill shot". The "kill shot" ended up being more like a "minor bruise" to their smartest competitors.

Gee, a thoughtful, well-informed post. What the heck are you doing on topix?

Well I can tell you that liquor barn did have something to do with chucks losing a lot of customers. And I have been into the stores lately and they are barren. I mean you can see the stores going under. It's really quite sad that a company from Indiana has ruined a once great place to buy. RIP chucks you were once great.

I have bought over the years from robbie at chucks and stopped only cause it became out of the way. The "barn".. well it was impressive... but no service. They did have the hard to find stuff thou. Greenwood... well they screwed me once.. and i will never go back. I65 is cool.... but mostly i buy from krogers... Granted they dont have a drive thru... but hell park in the fire lane hopp in and geth that 1/5th and run back out man. LOL...
