Anyone know a good church in BG? One that has down-to-earth people. Not too big, but big enough that everybody isn't into everybody else's business. I have heard about Steve Ayres (?) church, but it sounds a little too big for me to be comfortable in. Someone mentioned Meadowland, but I had never heard of it and don't know where it is.

How about Crossland Community Church. The address is 600 31-W bypass. It is actually behind the shopping center. The pastor is Greg Ferrell, and his e mail address is [email protected]

Crossland is a "great place" to attend. Everyone is so friendly, and doesn't pry into your personal business. They are however interested in sharing God's Word, and blessings.

I love Living Hope, but I would definitely recommend Crossland as well. I think you would be happy with either choice, if you are looking for a Baptist ministry. Both are pretty large, but I grew up in a church that 50 on a good week, and I love Living Hope. I will say that it is very easy to get connected with a small group at Living Hope. Crossland probably has the same opportunity for that. Visit several, and choose the one that feels good. Good luck and God bless.

The bigger churches like LH, First Baptist and Hillvue are full of fakes and losers who get their power trips being in charge of first one thing and then another. Like a social club but theres some Jesus in it too.

Other churches are hit or miss. I like Plum Springs.

Nice observation by someone that is not all about all that. I am sure Plum Springs is a wonderful choice too.

God is everywhere, Small or Large Church. Jason Pettus is the pastor at Living Hope and is a fine minister and preaches straight from the Bible. You find the church you feel at home in regardless of what anyone else tells you. Options, God loves and died for all his children. Instead of judging people, pray for them.

Unfortunately, I have to agree that there are a lot of fakes out there. It seems there are many that have found an easy way to take people's money without getting a real job. There are real preachers out there, just many, many more that are cons or on power trips. I wish there was some way to tell the difference; somethimes it just takes time, but I know a few that have been "preaching" for years and still have many fooled. They call themselves "men of God." ( I can CALL myself a CAR and sleep in the garage every night...that doesn't make me a car.)

Hillvue is an absolutely WONDERFUL church. The only reason I ever even walked in that place was because I was in from out of state visiting family. That's where they went to church so I went with them. I LOVED it. Even though it was HUGE I just loved the atmosphere and the pastors and their message lines right up with the word of God. Which is the absolute MOST important thing to look for in a church.

After that initial visit I didn't go back there for another year or so until my father in law was to be baptized. After that it was probably another year and a half before my family decided to move to Bowling Green, KY.

The hardest thing about relocating to KY was leaving my church family back home. I was going to a church that had about 200 people on their best day. To me, at that time, that was a big church. But I knew that I had more church family HERE in BG to come to. We are all family. All churches.... but all churches don't make you FEEL like part of the family. At Hillvue I felt at home IMMEDIATELY.

After attending Hillvue for a couple years now.... it doesn't seem so big at all. At first it did... but it's kinda like when you're a kid and you think your school gym is huge and then go back years later and see it as an adult... it doesn't seem so big at all. That's how it is... once you start knowing people and getting connected it just feels like home. There is a place for everyone there. It's not too big. You don't even think about it being big. It's just church. It's home. It's family.

Someone said we are full of hypocrites.... okay, sure. Every church has them... my old pastor in Indiana use to say... what better place is there for them to be than in church? But we are not FULL of them. Most at our church are just real people that believe in Jesus and are just trying to do the best we can do. We mess up and we'll tell you we mess up. We try to get better. Ya see, that is what I absolutely LOVE about Hillvue. We're not fake. We don't try to act like we are perfect and you are a "sinner" and aren't "worthy" to speak or worship with us.... everyone is welcome. EVERY-one. In fact we are criticized for that.... but I think that is what actually makes us stand out above other churches. Jesus didn't just associate with the "good" people... in fact it was just the opposite. Did you know he stayed with a "tax collector" and forgave the "prostitute"? Our doors are open to all. I hope you will come worship with us sometime.

Check out the history of the church. Just click on "History" on the right once you click on the site....

Hillvue started in a basement! Now we have 6-8 THOUSAND members.... That's gotta tell you something.

God has certainly blessed us. If a church isn't growing.... something is wrong.

I hope that these replies have helped you maybe make a decision. Any Church will be glad to welcome a new member, or even a gurst for that matter. May God be with you, and you find exactly what you are searching for.

Who is pastor at Meadowland now? I have a friend that used to go there, but his family left-had major concerns about the new preacher. Kinda out there.

Why is Hillvue Heights no longer Hillvue Heights Baptist? I don't know anybody that goes there, and have often wondered. Do you know raerae?

I'm not aware of any official name change.... did the sign use to say Baptist and now it doesn't? I hadn't noticed really. They still call themselves a Baptist church. I was going there for several months before I knew it was a baptist church though. Pastor Steve mentioned something during a sermon about being a baptist church... I was like, So I'm a baptist now... okay. lol Those titles don't really mean a whole lot to me. I consider anyone that believes in Jesus as the Son of God to be a brother or sister in Christ. We are all just different parts of the body in my opinion. And that includes all my Catholic brothers and sisters!
