If you're going to allow children on here than you have the responsibility to keep the nastiness cleaned up!

The responsibility falls SOLELY on the parent to MONITOR their children's Internet activity or to block certain sites from being accessed. Don't just pop 'em out and expect the rest of the world to babysit them!

So... what you're saying is: A parent who does NOT monitor their kids internet usage is negligent. Am I correct?

Call it what you want, but parenting starts at HOME. You wouldn't walk into a titty bar and tell the manager to have the women cover their breasts, so don't visit a public forum and expect G-rated commentary.

Its not rocket science after all.

I did not say it but yes its true. If you do not monitor your kids internet activity, its your fualt. I do not want to live in a "child proof" world so you can sit back and be a lazy parent.

If your kid is using the internet, control their usage to the point you feel comfortable with, or talk with them enough to prepare them for what they may find.

Don't take the lazy route and try to delete everything from the web you don't feel comfortable with your child viewing.

Trust me, MY child will not be on here.

I know what you mean about not living in a child proof world. We shouldn't need someone to moderate adult conversation. But here we are, sharing conversations about sex, homosexualtiy, cross dressing and so on with children sitting in on the conversation.

Would you talk about sex with a child sitting next to you on a park bench? Or beside you on a city bus? Or would you watch what you say because there are young ears present?

But the alternative is, what? Topix making everyone sign up and show their age? I don't really want to do that either.

I just wish people would hold themselves and each other to a higher standard. That is all.

Well that's good that you want people to hold themselves to a higher standard, but that's not really all is it? You are asking the moderators to "clean up the nastiness"

The supreme court cannot agree on what obscenity is do you want to trust topix mods to make that decision?

And your bus analogy does not fly. We should be able to reasonably assume well parented children would not be allowed onto a site where adult conversations are the norm. Children present on this site are more akin to eavesdroppers. Would you filter every conversation you have for life, on the off chance a child may overhear?

The bottom line is its a parents responsibility to be a parent. And really if you let your kid have unlimited internet access, the stuff on topix should be the least of your concerns.

I know, I know...

We can't assume all kids are well parented though. In fact, we know many aren't.

In Arabia, we cover our children in veils and do not allow them to be alone with men. We also don't allow them to drive. It keeps them from escaping. If we catch teen age boys looking at porn we blind them.

It's a sensitive subject. Most parents wouldn't want someone else shaping their child's opinion on such things. What's wrong with it? The Bible is clear. It's a sin. It's not a blessed life style. I know I know. We all sin. But many will try to convince others that God made them that way and that there is nothing wrong with it, etc. That is a lie. There is something wrong with it. It's a perversion of something that God made to be beautiful. The devil has all kinds of imitations. But God did not make them that way...

"When tempted, no one should say,“God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

We are called to: "...take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ..."

Now, that does NOT by ANY means mean you treat them any differently. We are called to love and serve others. Period. BUT.... that does not mean I do not believe it's wrong.
