reading the daily news on the moving of western's athletic director and what a loss it was sort of made me sick, the story said he had just about caused single handed a 100 million dollars most from houchens industries to be spent up grading the football field and diddle arena, this i guess is fine but the story right next to it was on warren county citizens going hungry and no way to get any food, with houchens being in the grocery business what is wrong with this picture, big loss sorry i don't think so. houchens you need to be really proud and consider where you came from and who supported you all these years, it sure was not western. this weekend i took a look at camp couragous in scottsville sponsored by dollar general, when you have big bucks to give away that's how it should be spent.

Benzman, you sound like a typical Obama supporter. Maybe Honda should give everybody a car or Apple distribute free smartphones.

Only 3 more years of this whiny victim mentality to go.

Benzman, I agree with you.. Even more so that Houchens and the sidekick IGA is over priced outdated second rate crap and takes full advantage of people in small communities that have no resources to get to a real grocery store.. Fu*k you Houchens! And This City Sux, I'm not a Obama supporter at all.. I think all politicians are dirty crooks that have ruined this country time and time again!! On the news recently Bowling Green is laying off employees.. That's odd, the fat head Mayor had a commercial a month or so ago that said how great Bowling Green was doing and how we should all run out and buy a Fu$king house!!

Houchens has that good ole boy mentality that looks upon sports as a form of worship. They couldn't care less about who's going hungry. They don't even pay their employees a decent wage. Thinking of those less fortunate is becoming obsolete and we will all pay the price for being so self absorbed.

Dang, folks, get a clue! Houchens' support of WKU athletics isn't charity, it's advertising/marketing. It has nothing to do with charity.

You might as well be complaining that everyone spending money advertising on tv/radio/print should instead be giving that money to hungry people.

Houchens does have a charitable foundation.

If you don't like their prices or inventory selection, go somewhere else. Better yet, instead of griping about it, open your own stores and do it better. You people with all the answers will probably be able to generate enough profit to feed every hungry person in the country.

But when you're feeding all the hungry, just be prepared to face everyone who thinks you should instead be helping to house the homeless, or heal the crippled, or pay utility bills, or whatever else they think you should do with your money.

I never have understood the mentality of people who complain about how other people spend their own money.

Sheesh.

I worked for a Houcens company for about a year and a half and I had had enough. They dont treat their employees with any respect. All they care about is money in THEIR pocket. People need to realize they wouldnt have any money if it wasnt for their employees. I hate the fact that they pretty much own Bowling Green. Houchens this Houches that.... Its out of control. Has anybody even seen the home of the President of the company? Its huge! Cant believe you would need that big of a house for TWO people. I wouldnt mind to have a bigger house but not like that. All I have to say is Karma is a bitch!

Let me get this straight:
-You worked for Houchens for 18 months and didn't like your job
-Houchens makes a profit
-You're tired of hearing about Houchens
-Houchens' president has a house bigger than you'd buy if you could afford a bigger house
-Two of the three times you wrote their name, you couldn't even spell it correctly

You sound like a model employee. I can't imagine why you're no longer employed there.

Houchens runs BG and there's nothing anyone can do about that except bitch about it, then shoudda sounds in with their great wisdom and knowledge. THANX! That would make sense, Jus Sayin, if Houchens owned all of the gas retail outlets in BG. But since they don't, you make no sense.

And Houchens doesn't run BG. The consumers have ultimate control of the city. If all the consumers were unhappy enough with Houchens to take all of their business elsewhere, then Houchens would either change or go out of business. Since that hasn't happened, most consumers must be OK with them.

Gas prices used to be cheaper here than in a lot of places. PAY BEFORE YOU PUMP changed all that. Retailers were forced to add the cost of credit/ debit card transactions into the price of their gas. Thank the city of BG. Franklin takes advantage of the state line, and I don't blame them.

As a former employee of houchens, i can vouch that they have no respect for the people that bust their a**es for them. It is a male ran company and unless u have a penis, u will go nowhere. Ipoured my heart and soul into that company for seven years and was discharged over reasons that didnt even concern the policy book. Im drwaning unemployment off them and and going to school to find a real job. Unless u have worked for them and have been screwed by them, then dont say a word. They are greedy male shovenist pigs!!! Thank you!!

They bought a gas station on Scottsville Rd then shut it down, removed the gas pumps and now you HAVE to buy their gas. How is that not a monopoly??

How is that not a monopoly? You're kidding, right? If you're not kidding and you actually believe that constitutes a monopoly, then I'm a little embarrassed for you.

Then don't shop there. Dang, how much sense does it take to shop where prices are lower?

I know several who quit mgmt jobs @ Houchens for hourly positions at Wal-Mart. The pay was almost the same, the conditions were better and they worked a lot fewer hours.

I have worked for Houchens, at the main office for over 3 years, and they have treated me fine. I take that back, they have treated me great. They pay me good, they treat me good. Apparently those who want to complain about how bad it is too work there, didn't do their job right or was lazy when doing it. That's why they hadn't and got treated "bad". For those complaining about Houchens giving Western 100 million dollars, why don't you smoke some more crack, Houchens donated $5 million to help build the new football stadium. that is all they have given, no where near 100 million. Also, if your going to complain about Houchens donating money to, then complain about every other stadium, arena, etc. You think money wasn't donated to help build others.
