I'm getting my first tattoo next Friday on my ribs. I don't have a high tolerance for pain but really want this tattoo bad. How bad is the pain?

Well, this might be a repeat, but my advice is don't. In 5 years you will hate whatever you have put on, AND it HURTS!!
Don't.

It's literally 12 words. Is it bearable?

Depends on WHERE. Some places hurt a LOT worse than others.

The ribs hurt worse than most places. I am covered in tattoos. For your first tattoo, you may want to pick a different location.

12 words might be ok if you stop every other letter lol. Not trying to scare you out of it, but ur ribs hurt like hell! And I've got a tattoo on my spine & it didn't hurt nearly as bad as my ribs

You are very cruel. You must have a video camera and know where she is going so you can laugh it up and put it on YouTube. Words on the ribs? Really?

Age has NOTHING to do with it. Great for her if she has a high tolerance for pain but I however don't. All I want to know is what the pain is like so I have an idea when I get there. And if you have 6 tattoos you would know that your not supposed to drink or take any medicine because it thins out your blood and can make you bleed more, and it can cause the ink to not settle in your skin and mess up your tattoo.

Your first tattoo should NOT be on your ribs! Ribs are a bitch! If it is truly your first, I would get it on the upper arm! You Will pass out! You may not make it through the whole thing! It's up to you but listen to what ppl say! You will be asking urself why didn't I listen to the ppl on topix! From the first line they start you WILL be in PAIN!!!!

I have four large ones, none on my ribs though. I suggest you be prepared to know your limits and split it into multiple sessions if need be. If they do them in thin script it might be bearable, but if you are doing thick letters I doubt you can make it through being your first tattoo. I would also strongly suggest getting a small one in a less sensitive area first to know what to expect and how to properly care for it after the fact. I wish you luck!

Oh yeah, DO NOT take pain meds, that person is an idiot. It reduces the ability of your blood to clot. Alcohol thins your blood, so that's out too. I did get one stoned and thought that would help, it actually made the pain more intense. So, basically, just gonna have to get my with your body's endorphins, natural pain killers. It will take a bit for them to kick in so the beginning will be rough. Also, they are not unlimited. I once sat for a 7 hour session and I made it through about 5.5 holding tough. Then my body just seemed to run out, I pushed through but I literally sat there pouring tears in the worst pain I have ever felt for the last hour and a half. Not trying to scare you out of it, I love mine and they are worth it. But I also refuse to lie to you and tell you it will be easier than it is.

Good luck friend!

There's one I want on my foot too. Would it be better to get the one on my foot first and not the one on my ribs?

I have one on each foot, it was less painful than my shoulder so I would say yes! Although, it is pretty cold to be wearing flip flops and you aren't going to want to let any pressure touch it for a week or so. I limped for the first week, the healing was worse I should mention but the actual inking wasn't as bad.

How bad is that pain on the outside of the foot? I want one there too. Should I get it first?

I just don't want to start the one on the ribs and not be able to finish it. And the one on my foot is only 6 words.
