I just hear that Gerald's staff is the weakest in the history of any of Christine's companies, and she is smart enough to recognise that.
Losing both Vicky And Lance in one week means that Forever has one senior account executive, after losing nearly 20 excellent employees since Gerald took charge.
I understand the humor, but this is far from funny.
Can somebody wake up??!!!!!
Before anyone is hired and assigned a cubicle in sales, they should be sat down at a computer and made to read the Topix threads about Forever BG. If they still want the job, fine. But if you find out all this crap in day four of your internet training you are going to say Holy Shit and pay attention more to the abusive attitudes and blatant favoritism among managers. It is very obvious and more so if you took the job believing the blue sky Gerald and Joe tell you about how positive and fair everything is. It is negative, abusive, and unfair, and salespeople need to know that before accepting a job at Forever BG.

I just heard about that newest sales person leaving. Was she fired or did she quit after just a few weeks? Three new hires gone within a week, what the Hell?
People are just taking a sales job at Forever now so they can get a base salary while they look for a better job. It pays more than unemployment does, and you get 8 hours a day to wander the streets of BG totally unsupervised. What better opportunity to basically target businesses you would like to work for and get in front of the boss. All you can do about that is make Forever a good place to work again.

Or like Vicky going to YP, they have to park themselves somewhere while they wait for their other non-compete to expire. Plus you get free sparklers!

Wouldn't it be fair to say the "excellent employees" are the ones that are there picking up the slack for the ones that didn't to their jobs. The ones that you say wander unsupervised in the streets of Bowling Green looking for jobs while taking this company's paychecks? Like a cheater in a relationship, if they do it to you they will do it to the one they left you for. Can you tell us, other than the yp, where did these excellent employees go. It would be interesting to know. I live in BG and the Beaver is my station. When I hit the button they are there. Scooter and Myla are the best. They could work anywhere. They wouldn't stay if this place was as rotten as you make it out to be. They have too much class for that. I think you are jealous that you couldn't cut it and don't get to work with these people anymore!

WOW! The last three gone within ten days and at least one to a competitor with Vicky going back to selling Yellow Pages and YP. How do you explain that to the owners?
Man-hours. Think how many hours and dollars have been wasted recruiting, interviewing, hiring, semi-training, writing to targets, monitoring, meeting, meeting, meeting, warning, reprimanding, cleaning out cubicles. It's massive, and then all the time managers have to work to come up with excuses for why another great hire developed the "Forever Lazy-Stupid disease". At some point doesn't reality smack you in the face?

Somebody mentioned a walkout. There is a walkout going on now obviously, but it is one at a time walking out of sales. And bribing a salesperson with gift accounts to get them to stay is a very shortterm solution.

Did you hear that Beaver is giving away a Harley!!! I want to win. It's awesome. Some idiot actually ran down this company for buying it from a BG business. The nerve of this company to support another local business. What chaos will ensue if all BG businesses supported each other??? Are Harleys better if they come from Nashville or Louisville?

And in the meantime, we can hold Jill's insurance meeting for sales in the ladies restroom and not feel crowded. This is not a programming or admin problem. Gerald is clueless about Bowling Green and has no desire to call on a single account or meet any business person unless they run a bar.

It's not rotten at all at Forever, it just needs the owners to care again.

No one ran down Forever for buying local. The point was made that the Harley-Davidson brand has notoriously boycotted Forever's radio stations in the past several years. And when an aggressive summer marketing opportunity arose Forever ignored the brands who support it and chose to align the Forever stations with a brand that spends no money. We all watch and learn from your actions and learn to ignore your words. And again we are back to training your beginner salespeople because you cannot recognize mismanagement.

We are glad to have a summer promotion, whatever it is. Would you rather we offered ten million GreenFairie beads and some IGA gas? I am proud that we are offering listeners a great prize. You are correct that our managers are terrible at interviewing hiring and training our salespeople. They are even worse at judging who to have cover our best accounts. It is so obvious that it will be fixed soon.

I don't usually bother posting, but I have an old friend who has worked for this company for a few years now. I spent time with them and asked for their take on this. I was told that things have gotten so much better since gg came. Decisions get made, problems get resolved and people have to do their job. If they don't, there are consequences. imagine that, you have to do your job to keep it. Is he perfect, not even close they said, but he isn't abusive. I asked about Kathy who I know a little. Gg and kathy had an issue but they worked it out. She told me kathy told her 30 yrs of sales was enough and it was time for kathy time. She said kathy still comes in the station. They miss her a lot. I will never stoop to name calling or personal attacks. I just wanted to share what I was told. She had no reason to lie to me. As someone said before...I have no dog in this fight. I love that saying lol

You gotta love Christine for posting and trying to counter the rising negative tide. If she could only spend ten minutes evaluating the fairness of account assignments and the public belittleing.

Kathy tried to make nice on her way out after 30 years serving Bowling Green. Kathy would not have quit if her written formal complaint about being verbally abused had not been ignored and dismissed. I can say from personal knowledge that the abuse complaint committee never saw the letter Kathy wrote. Kathy was asked repeatedly to keep it all verbal so it could be denied. It is now in writing, but did the formal abuse complaints ever make it to a file? I doubt it. Nice try.

My name is on your list and its time I spoke up. I was out of work and thankful to get this job. Gg and j gave me a chance. Unfortunatly my personal problems got so bad I couldn't focus on my job. I let the company down, left gg down, but most of all I let myself down. They really tried to help me. Seeing my name on your list is a constant reminder of the opportunity I had and lost. If one of my friends from the station posted it, you didn't do me any favors. I know others on the list read this crap, I did. You know who you are. Why are you letting a few angry bitter people smear this company that gave you a chance? Be honest.

M, if this was your first post you might have a point. But first you tried deceit and blind cheerleading. Just like you tried to fake Joe hitting on you. We all saw that. Now you want to build facebk likes and smilies on your emails. Go play with the seals and mighty ducks. We love Forever and we are fighting to get it back on track. One year after they fired M there are 3 salespeople, one with more than 3 months experience. We are embarrassed and glad to see Christine in the building again. Heads should roll, but they won't.

I guess I'm next. I'm on "the list". Unlike the other one I didn't need a job. I just wanted it. I never sold radio before, but I'm college educated and I thought how hard could this be? I knew up front I would have to develop my own account list. I found out real fast this job wasn't for me. Its a lot of long hours and tedious paperwork. I don't blame the owner or management or the people I worked with. They were all very professional. I just hated selling, so I left. I now have a pt job I love. Life is short. Be happy. Who's next?

How long can this BS go on? We just lost three sales department new hires in ONE week. Hello, Christine!!!
What do they tell you on the exit interview?
I was flat out lied to by both Gerald and Joe about the wide open market and the availability of businesses that I knew the owners of. What was not on Doc's protected list was on Joe's and kept as house accounts. The rushed interview should have given me a clue. I wish I had known about info sites like this before I applied.

Has Gerald still never sold a local account in BG? I find that hard to see Christine tolerating, but in a year?

Not a bad plan if you are willing to tolerate the foul language and yelling from the general manager. You get a base pay for at least 3 months that is anywhere from $2000 to $3000 per month. You get $100 gas and $50 phone each month. I am sure that is negotiable. You are given a list of inactive businesses and can be given some active ones and you get paid around 10% of your sales on your list of 50. No territory protection. If you are any good at sales you will get job offers daily from clients and at business functions. It's actually very flattering and is why many in sales get out from under the Forever pressure cooker management style and grab a job somewhere less stressful. Why not use their stupidity to land in a job you really want and make some money in the process.
The staff who thought of Forever as a career have almost all been fired or quit in the last year. I read that one just went to work for a client of hers yesterday and she was the 2nd highest seller. Use them, they seem to like it.

BitchFromHell wrote:

That is all very helpful information since I intend to apply at Beaver for a sales job they advertisied soon. I have no fear of the management tactics described here because if they try that shit on me I will become the BitchFromHell on them. It all sounds very normal sales management behavior in virtually every other industry I have worked in, just so you know. You have to give back to a bully manager everything he, or she-bully, gives out. I have sued before and won back wages and commissions but not damages in my case. If I leave my present sales job I can't wait 90 days for benefits and will have to negotiate that. My smartphone is $80 a month and I get $300 in gas now, so I will have to reset that with them. Accounts assigned is a good idea before I accept the job.$3500 is a fair base as long as there are some active accounts to be commissioned on.
What other job elements are negotiable there? Office or cubicle? Window or lockable door? Optional or mandatory meetings? Auto allowance instead of gas only? Territory or category exclusivity available to a senior seller? When is base paid versus commissions? Bonuses, Prizes, awards available to sellers?
All help appreciated. They will make me an offer and I want to get my best deal going in based on what I have read here.
Please apply! We need you. Something tells me they have learned their lessons upstairs and need to hire some salespeople who can produce quickly. If you are a proven performer in a local company you can probably set up your own good deal. You are being a little optimistic in the base salary, I hear anywhere from $1000 to $4000 depending on experience. For your questions, you get a cubicle, there is only one big window for all, lol, meetings every morning 8am mandatory and one on Friday 4pm so you don't go play golf, gas only and not much, no territory, base split or on 15th commish on last day of month. Bonuses are made up as they go along. Get all of your accounts assigned before you take the job, you lose all power to negotiate once you are on the staff. You get one commision when you make your goal and a less amount if you miss it, so know what your sales quotas are before you start. A strong woman on staff would be a welcome addition. And don't tell them you sued your employer before, they would not like that.
