He classifies 100% fruit juice as junk food, if that tells you anything.

He is my son's doctor. He does not give antibiotics very often. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. My son is 5, and has never had one. But there have been times when i felt he needed something, and received nothing. Then again, I am not a doctor, I'm sure he knows better than I. Overall he has been a good doctor, but we are looking to find another one. Hope this helps

100% fruit juice is junk food. Unless you just juiced it and it's still full of living enzymes, it's processed crap.

The only processing done is pasteurizing, which is just heating it. Heating destroys enzymes but the juice retains all the other nutrients. Pasteurizing is not the reason he says it is junk food. He thinks the natural sugars in it makes it junk food.

He is right. Children don't need all of that sugar. Fruit is balanced with fiber, juice is just PURE SUGAR. Give them fruit, not fruit juice.

It's better than kool aid, but they should be drinking water.

My son goes to him and he is an awesome doctor, he really pushes the 24 hour hot line he has and he says to call whenever we feel the need even if its just something simple. I think that is great, my sisters doctor is so hard to get a hold of.The antibiotics thing is true but that's a good thing that's why so many ppl stay sick bc they use antibiotics for everything and there body is so used to them!

So he was right when you thought is was because of enzymes and now he is right because of the sugar? I'm beginning to think you work for him. Juice is just pure sugar? Where did all the vitamins and minerals go? There is a big difference in processed white sugar and the natural sugars in fruit juices. Children should also drink water, but does water have the nutrients that fruit juices have?
And what kind of water should they drink, city water that is loaded with chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs? Bottled water that you have no idea where it came from? I am not saying the doctor is not good at what he does, but do you realize how much education on nutrition doctors have? Practically none. It is all about drugs.

actually Dr. Voakes is a health freak (meaning that is a good way..LOL)! He is one who doesn't believe in "drugs" and he believes in doing things the natural way..instead of shoving med's into your kid..you should read his blog sometime! I think he is a fantastic doctor and I recommend him to anyone!

That sounds good, but when he prescribed something for my daughter, it wasn't natural at all. It was drugs. He is a medical doctor, not a naturopath, therefore he doesn't know how to do things the natural way. I have had experience with him and I know better than what you are saying. He may be good at what he is trained in but he doesn't do things the natural way.

I went there as a child as did all of my sisters and cousins... My mom loved him and his staff. If he treated adults, I'd still be going there.

look, if the child needs something like antibiotics, he'll prescribe it. He would just PREFER to do it without drugs if at all possible.

Well, It seems that you know it all, and you should be a doctor yourself! Sometimes there is no other way, you have to have medicine, but he likes to do things other than shove meds in children for just any simple thing. If you do not like him..DO NOT go to him, you better believe if I didn't think he was doing whats best for my child..then I wouldn't be going to him. He is a Pediatrician, Pediatricians are trained to care for children. What do you think he is suppose to do? Did your daughter not get better with the medicine? Maybe Just because his title isn't naturopathic, does not mean he knows nothing on the subject! You should treat your children at home..since you obviously know better than the "doctor" does!LOL

For your info smartass, my daughter doesn't see him anymore. She sees a naturopath. No, my daughter did not get better from his treatment and I took her to a naturopath and she did get better. Since I have seen what natural medicine can do, that is my chosen method. I don't just accept that kids need drugs or adults either for that matter. It is obvious that you are the one that thinks you know it all, but you are actually just following like a sheep.
