My father worked under a union all his life and let me tell you he would be the first to tell you at Sun don't do it. First of all a Union can't get you anything that the company isn't willing to give you, alot of the time the union will trade a benefit that you really wish they wouldn't have traded all in the name of getting a few more cents on the hour. I can't count the times I would watch my dad sit and figure the amounts up for health insurance and personal days usually whatever money they got them extra was actually took away because what they traded for extra money amounted to higher benefit costs. The employee's that the union would protect their job was usually the employee's my dad would tell us were the employee's who should have lost their jobs they were the lazy, complaining, didn't want to do any work employee's that is who the union protects. I watched the better half of my childhood seeing my dad on strike and yes the strike would and did continue on for almost 10 months by that time my dad would say he couldn't remember why they were even striking anymore he was tired of picketing. We all know how going on strike went for Valspar them people lost more than they gained. I sincerely think that years and years ago unions were needed but not anymore not with all the OSHA and other labor laws that have been passed. This is my story years ago the company I worked for we voted the union in sure did, we voted ourselves right out of a job. Three months after we voted the union in the company announced with no warning they were moving the company to Mexico and weren't asking any of the employee's to go with them we paid three months of union dues for nothing. I needed that money back too when I lost my job when the Company left. I am telling you this Company hired over 1500 people and they moved practically overnight. We voted the union in at the cost of our jobs it was a huge mistake cause the company is under NO LAW to accept the union they CAN AND DO go somewhere else to get away from the union.

If the Company moved within three months, they were already planning on moving and becoming Union had nothing to do with it. It takes time to plan amove (finding another spot, building the facility, setting up equipment, etc.)

Many Companies flourish with a Union. If not how have some facilities been Union for 50+ years and they continue to grow.

The Company is under Law to negotiate with the Union once it is voted in.

You will tell these people anything to get them to sign a card. I don't believe that at all that the company had planned to move anyway they had only been here a year and was doing well. Everyone knows in their right mind a Japanese company will not have a union they just won't. They already had the facility in Mexico it was no hardship for them to pick up and leave. Yes the company is obligated to work with a union but the company in the end will have the last word on what they are willing to give the employee's. Take GM for example the union raised the employee's up to a wage that was so freaking high it was crazy so did Chrysler that is a big reason they went bankrupt also it's the reason why when they hire now you don't start out anymore at such a huge wage they learned their lesson. You still make good money at these factories but now it's more reasonable.

Each election, unions spend hundreds of millions of dollars to elect friendly politicians. In 2012 alone, union chiefs boasted that they intended to spend more than 400 million of member dues to elect Obama. Exit polls from 2012 determined that 40 per-cent of union household members voted for Romney! Members could find a better use of their forced dues. Union leaders also mismanage member assets. Many multi-employer union pension plans are underfunded by more than $350 Billion. Union members have been able to watch as their leadership turned their nest egg into an IOU. Union leader pull down record saliries while members are losing jobs. Bottom line: Unions offer employees little less but smaller paychecks, coercive politics, strikes, headlines about corruption and embezzlement and job losses. It even changes an old saying to: "Divided We Stand,United We Fall"......Peace!
