How far behind does a person have to get before something can be done? Do past medical bills that they are paying count towards this also? What usually happens.

1st you have to get it set up through the child support office. I think it is 500 dollars behind before they will intercept tax refund...1000 behind you can get them locked up... their bail will be set at the amount of back support due....

it's different for everyone and whether or not the judge even likes you. so even 1000 may not get someone into trouble

so i'm guessing he is still behind, pumpkin.
Also you never know you are exactly right, he lied in court when we went was caught, and still didn't get into trouble so my luck they wouldn't do a thing. What gets me though is that they are building a new house, although he got hurt at work and is drawing workman's comp. He told me that he didn't have a check to pay me. I asked if he would be able to be caught up by thanksgiving that this would make him a little over $1000.00. He told me he doubted it, he just doesn't have the money. But he can pay a lawyer for his wife to take her ex husband back to court to get custody of their son at over $150.00 an hour. I wonder if this would matter?

yes he's still behind. He was a good guy when we were together and even after we broke up he still helped out but then he started hanging out with the wrong crowd and he hasn't paid since. I had to keep going to court and each time he would come up with a different excuse, or he would lie and say he was getting a job or had one he just started, etc. and finally after multiple attempts to collect I filed for an indictment. However, he still hasn't been caught. soooo who knows....

I've had full custody of my son since 2001. I filed for child support in 2007. Since then I have received very little(less than $800)in support. She was put in jail once for 30 days but that was it. Deadbeat mom owes me over $3,500!! It's her loss tho because her son has grown up & she's nowhere around to see it. Sad when people choose friends over family. I will pursue to get our money till the end! If someone is a DEADBEAT doesn't always mean it's a guy...DEADBEAT WOMEN out there too!!

Most people try to get out of paying child support. My ex didn't pay anything for over two years. Then I lost my job and could not pick up his slack anymore. I would ask for just $50 a month (we have 3 kids) to pay for daughters braces and he always had an excuse. But he makes around $40,000 a year. I even asked for just $15 a week to take care of the bill. He still just could not come up with it.

So I went to child support office and they asked when he last paid and I had to be honest about it. Over 2 years added up to a little over $12,000. We went to court(he quickly came up with $1200 for a lawyer) Judge told him he had to pay it. But I said I would settle for $6000. So they take it out of his check. I don't have to deal with his excuses anymore.

ex-wife is behind OVER $20,000, our son is now 15. Fathers are labeled as "deadbeat-dads", what about the mothers? They cannot lock her up because she has other children now and arresting her would just take a mother away from them. I've seen Amy Milliken and the social workers recommend jail time for men without even looking at the circumstances of the case. Family court has been a nightmare and a failure.

That is pretty bad, so in other words they can easily lock up the dads although they may have other children at home as well. Since there are really no consequences, why would they feel that they have to pay. My ex told me that he had no income coming in because he was hurt at work, I asked him about workman's comp, and he said he isn't receiving that either, because he is according to the paperwork required to report to them if he has change of employment, receives disability, workmans comp whatever it may be so they can continue to take the money out of this. Or he is supposed to make the payments on his own until he returns to work. Well come to find out the child support office checked into it and yes he is receiving workmans comp so this week it is supposed to resume coming out it has been 2 months, I know this isn't long, and they are supposed to take out extra to pay for his arrearages. My only thought was he owns one house and is building another that will soon be done. As well as his wife has her nails done weekly, hair, tanning etc. and believe me she isn't paying for it herself. Also he only pays a little over $400.00 a month for supporting 3 children. I don't think I am asking alot to keep up with that amount.

This is for Broke, you can go directly to the County Attorney and fill out a report, they will call you in to testify before the grand jury. It is theft over 1,000, then you get it out of child support office which is a joke of process and he is arrested and goes to trail or theift just like every other crook. I did this my husband owed 2200 and the judge told him pay or go to prision for 11 months and 29 days not a local jail. He is now considered a felon, only had to do it once he has been paying ever since.

And how does it help you to have him in jail? are you getting more money by it? are you helping your children? If he doesn't want to pay, just get rid of him. Take out his custody rights and apply for assistance. This child support enforcement is not designed for helping the children or the families, settle outside of it.

I haven't seen support or gotten a phone call in two years for my two kids. I won't persue it because I don't want the man anywhere near me or my kids ever again. If the state catches up wiht him so be it but my kids know I love them and that is enough for now. It is hard but it was harder having him in thier lives. I feel if you can feed your kids and keep them healthy the support is just a nice thing to get them extra stuff with but I don't and they don't need that extra.

You're an idiot on many levels. Would explain but you're to dense to understand what I would tell you.
