I need a mechanic in bowling green, but I am not sure who to go to. I'm a young female and know they tend to 'Fix' things that aren't broken, & all I need is my heat looked at. Any suggestions?

Floyd and Tony Cline are excellent mechanics and will be honest and upfront with anyone male or female.

If that's Floyd over on Pioneer drive you're talking about, I'll definitely vouch for them too. Had to have them replace a starter on my wife's old car that I couldn't reach. They took good care of us. I've had work done at Bowling Green Muffler on a few occasions too. Those are stand up guys as well.

Speaking of trying to "fix" things... Some guy at the Goodyear dealer tried to convince my wife yesterday that her car needed rotors. It has 30K miles, and still running the original pads. I've spent enough time under a car to know damn good and well her rotors aren't "worn out". It's so easy to take advantage of people that have absolutely no knowledge of cars other than where keys, gas and CDs go in. If you're ever not sure about something get a second opinion. It never hurts to ask around; someone's dad, uncle, brother, sister, friend knows something about cars and can tell you if someone is trying to take you for a ride. You wouldn't have to look far to find someone who'd take a look at it for the price of a a case of beer and parts :-D And no, I'm not volunteering.

I went to Greenwood Ford some years ago ( I am a female who works on my own cars) but I needed a part for my Antenna, I take it over there for a small part and they try and tell me I need brakes, Well the front brakes and the Antenna totally on different ends of the car have nothing to do with each other. Well I had just bought this car and they tried telling me my brakes are bad and who ever put them on did a lousey job, I went into my envelope packet with all my info pulled it out and said oh I had the brakes done and he ran his mouth and said well whoever did it, really did bad. I said well the brakes were done here and whats your last name and he told me and I said well you did my brakes and here is the paper with your name and the info for the warranty. Needless to say I got my antenna somewhere else.

I took my 2002 Dodge Ram to Haleys and I had just taken it to Martin Dodge and they told me it would cost around $1100.00 to make it run right. I was told by a friend to take it to Mr. Haley and just tell him to fix it and I would be surprised at what it would cost, he guaranteed me it would be a lot less than my first estimate. Well I did and I got out with my truck fixed at a total cost of $189.00 and he apologized for it being that high but I had a sensor bad, only one and Martins told me I needed three, won`t go back to Martins ever again. PS it has been 6 weeks since I had it repaired and it is still fixed.

I agree that Reynold on Old Louisville Road is the place to go. Quick honest service. What more can you ask for? At least that was my experience.

I have also had my truck to Haleys on Kenton Street and was very pleased with price and quality of work performed, also to Clark and Son on the by pass. Both have been very honest with me as Mr. Haley actually sent me to Clarks as I was broken down and needed help badly and Mr haley had two men out sick that day so he must consider Clark and Son honest also.
Just a thought

If it's a foreign car, Bob Hayes and Jerry at Plum Springs Garage are great! Excellent mechanics and much cheaper than the dealer

For the guys with hot rods or customs mike at m&l automotive is a damn good guy to use. He's a hotrodder himself (10 second 3rd gen camaro) and understands working above and beyond general repair. And ladies he's a very honest guy to deal with as well.

Sears!!!I bought a new set of tires at Sears and had a vibration. They told me I had 4 (can you believe) bad wheels, so I purchased four new wheels, same vibration, then they told me I had a bent axel for another $425.00. I stopped here and was advised by a friend to go to Haleys on Kenton Street. Mr. Haley drove my car and said he had a vehicle similar to mine so he switched his wheels and tires to mine and bingo, no more vibration. Now what Mr. Haley did blew me away just to prove his point, he installed his tires on my old wheels and balanced them, none were bent and they rode perfectly. Problem solved, I had a bad set of tires all the time and I wasted several hundred dollars trusting Sears, no more.

Well let me tell you how the automotive industry works. I have worked at several places, from Cadillac dealers to my own shop. Yes, to people who say they try to sell you things you dont need, its a preventative maintenance issue. Whenever they bring your vehicle in for simply an oil change or whatever it may be, they do a routine inspection of your brakes, tires, fluid levels, lights, condition of steering and suspension components, ect. They do it to let you know that some parts are beginning to fail or have failed. And to the guy who said his rotors wasnt bad at 30K miles, while I'm not saying your wrong, I have had a Cadillac CTS that I worked on and I pulled the vehicle outside over the weekend and it rained, and by monday, the rotors were COMPLETELY rusted and DESPERATELY needed to be turned/replaced. It all depends on the vehicle and parts. Every car is different. As you have noticed in the above posts, you have to beware of the independent shops. Some guys really know what they are doing and will be very nice and honest with you, and there are also people who DO try to upsell things you dont need. If you doubt something, all you have to do is say can you show me why this is bad? If they are a good mechanic, they will take you to your car and explain why they suggest your car needs whatever repair it may be. For example, if they say your cars rotors need replacing or turned, have them show you the rust and/or grooves on your rotors to assure you they need serviced. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK! Like I said, a respectful mechanic will show you why you need that repair as long as you ask them to show you. Yes dealers may be high but the majority of the time, the quality of the part is DRASTICALLY higher than aftermarket parts. I'm not saying after market parts are not good, just that factory parts are what the vehicle was intended to use, therefore they usually work better.
Need some advice please

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Scorpio

A loved one is extremely upset today, and you'll soon know all about it. Things are out of proportion, so a minor hitch becomes a huge drama that means you've got to drop everything in order to calm them down. Hey ho. At least it won't last long. If you're doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, you won't have as much patience as usual and nor will anyone else.
