I have no idea what the local situation is for legally distributing Methadone as part of an addiction program.

I live with chronic, intractable pain and have been on a low dose of Methadone from time to time. I have never experienced difficulty getting scripts filled locally but that is a different matter.

From what I understand, as far as treating for an addiction, is that it keeps the person from the craving of opiate drugs.(hydrodone(lorcet), oxycotin, and herion addictions). These addictions I feel like afflicts all types of people,(doctors, lawyers, teachers, young and old, poor and rich, and even church going people). I would like to hear more on this subject.

My understanding is that it is a synthetic heroin. It's initial use was for pain mgt and is very effective to that end. Like any opiate therapy, the patient is screened for addiction history and issues that might predispose him/her to an increased likelihood of addiction. The patient is put on a tight opiate contract and monitored closely for possible abuse/misuse.

I have not known Methadone to be used for addiction treatment for anything other than heroin but I am not well versed in addictology.

The vast majority of psychs. that do inpatient detox off of pain meds at the Bowling Green Medical Center, do a 3-5 hospitalization and give the patient suboxone or subutex for a day or two to reduce withdrawl symptoms.

Since I am not a physician, specializing in addiction, I will not debate the wisdom or success rate of such a course of treatment.

I was severly addicted to opiates for over 5 years. I started using pain medication after the death of my daughter. I thought I wasn't doing anything wrong because all of my medicine was prescribed to me by a doctor! After several years of being on the pain medicine loratab,i began to run out of my medicine a week or so before I would be due for a refill! Before I knew it I was buying pain meds off the streets and when there were none available of the kind I needed someone recommended oxycotin and from that day on my addiction spun rapidly out of control. I honestly was at rock bottom! Thats when I started at the methadone clinic! This changed my life, if it is something that you can research and find it may work for you I urge you to try! It teaches you how to get your life back! I have been sober now for 2 years and I can tell you without a single doubt if I had not gone through the methadone treatment, I would still be a severe addict and thats only if I hadn't ended up in a prison or in a grave! If you believe it may work for you do not let anyone else's opinions influence your decision or what will make your life better!

So you never really have any pain to manage? You just got the scripts to help you through your day?

It's people like that that hurt people that really suffer pain and cant get any help from their doctors due to the constant abuse and fear of abuse.

The only way this medicine should be used is strictly in a clinical envornment. It should not be available for pharmacy pick up. It is one of the most dangerous drugs I have ever been around. It plainly states on the bottle that one dose can be toxic and fatal. Yes this is true. I know first hand. I buried my son a year ago because of this drug.

I know that there is a suboxone clinic in bowling green on ashley circle and they require you pay 400.00 monthly and then you have to pay for your script which can cost about 44 UNLESS YOU HAVE INSURANCE. tHE CLOSEST METHYADONE CLINIC WOULD BE IN ELIZABETHTOWN OR IN NASHVILLE WHICH IS 100.00 A WEEK
just curious

keys were getting stuck while typing, but what I meant was, if you do not have insurance your script can cost around 400.00 a month unless you have insurance. so if you do not have insurance it could cost you around 800.00 monthly, but I assume it would be worth it if it worked for you..Some people it does, some it doesnt...It didnt work for me, so i WENT BACK TO METHADONE WHICH WORKED BETTER FOR ME..BUT GOODLUCK IN YOUR CHOICE

Wow you are an uneducated idiot, and you probably buried you son because he was taking it with Xanax, or some other benzo. Methadone does not kill, idiot's abusing the medication kills themselves !!

That wasn't trashing anyone. It's a fact. That person was using medication meant for physical pain not intended for emotional pain. The people that do that are partially to blame for the people that need physical pain relief not being able to get help.
Thats right

your arent a genius either. Just one does of methadone can and will kill thousands of people a year! There was a 20/20 spicial my mom had me watch on it, when she found out I was taking them. People who have opiate addiction are used to taking 8, 10 or in some cases even more pills a day of the highest dose. With methadone you only take one every 24 hours. It Builds up in your system if you take it like you do the opiates and causes a lethal overdose, often with no warning signs. There also isn't a way to " pump " the stomach bc the med is already digested and in the blood stream. I encourage you to research the facts before you get on here acting like that. You just made yourself look stupid...
