It was amazing that the folks at WKU were acting like Ray Harper was John Wooden brought to life again in his prime to coach at WKU. It will backfire on you, sure Harper will probably be better than the last coach, but I doubt he will be any different than Horn or Felton or the others. His resume is great on a Division 2 level, but why is he 51 years old and never could find his way out of the minor leagues. Plus how many times has a successful high school or college coach ever transitioned to a major league without ultimate failure: Pitino at the Celtics, Calipari's brief NBA run.

Or wooden from Dayton HS to UCLA. Tressel from Youngstown to Ohio State.

Ray Harper may be able to coach x's n o's but his recruiting is what will be his eventual downfall. Get ready for the "bad boys" from Div 1 teams who either got kicked off for behavior or character problems. Those are the types who have made up his teams in the past they say.

Mark my words, Ray Harper will not last and will be let go in 3 years. Our chance to get Richard Pitino Jr will be gone after Richard gets the Murray State job this year and moves on after that, Murray's coach is going to Illinois opening that position.

“Yes, I am smarter than you.”

I'm not sure I'm following this. Richard Pitino is a better choice than a national champion division 2 coach? I'm not all that familiar but hasn't Pitino only been an assistant to his father? Why is Pitino a better choice than Harper? Harper played division 1 basketball, he's coached it as an assistant and has been a winning head coach at a lower division. Plus he's from our region.

Why not give him the opportunity? He's far more deserving of it than Pitino.

Is it possible this Harper guy wears a teflon suit and they just can't get anything to stick on him?
Western fans could be in for a wild ride with this guy, one moment he's winning championships and the next one he's dodging bullets from the NCAA.

Coach Harper's record speaks for itself. There is absolutely no reason to give this job to anyone but Ray Harper. I mean the man has the highest win percentage in college basketball for god sakes. The fact that he is from our region does matter because it promises stability. Bottom line, giving this job to someone else would be like going with door number three when you've already been offered the grand prize. Basically, none of the other candidates offered WKU even close to what Harper brings to the table. If Ray Harper stays at least 10 years, then all the neigh sayers will see first hand what WKU basketball is capable of.

His experience is in Div 2 basketball. That's barely more than glorified high school level and he wasn't even able to keep the NCAA happy. The basketball and the players don't care where he's from, only stupid WKU devotees.

The die hard fans seem to be under the impression Ray Harper is going to deliver wku a final four in 5 years. Forget it. Harper may give wku a sunbelt title or a trip to the NCAA 2nd in 5 years, but you people are insane if you think Harper is a calipari/wooden/Williams coach. It took Harper till he was 51 to get a division 1 job. I believe Harper is the oldest first year wku coach as well.

Harper ate Bruce pearl for dinner back in the day when Pearl was at USI and Ray at KY Wesleyan. Ray will recruit many of the local talent from W. KY that gets away. He will have WKU in the "dance" next year and Sweet 16 within 2-3 years.

If you can coach, you can coach. Period. Watch and learn from Ray, the master motivator, Harper! Many D-1 coaches, most have never has sucess at any level. What does D-1 experience bring? Plus Ray will stay, no more revolving door, or "stepping stone" coaches, he is loyal, and works hard. A great example for these kids!
