My daughter has gotten grounded but we only took her phone, kindle, and laptop. We let her keep iPad for school. She got caught texting on iPad. Monday I took that iPad to the vice principal and told them to give her paper work till she is ungrounded. So now she isn't allowed to use the iPad at school at all because I the parent said so. The school give me no problems. If you don't like the iPad then give it back and shut up. Personally I like the iPad and when my child is ungrounded she will get it back
Standing ovation!!!!!!

Not so fast, tinfoilhat, read the literature on iPad's radiant pollution...not very safe!

Ok, I'll bite. What radioactive pollutants are in an iPad? You make the assertion, you back it up with peer reviewed sources. Not some nutball on YouTube with a instrument that doesn't know what he is doing with it.

Knowing nothing about how wi-fi devices might be harmful, if at all, Please alleviate this concern that I have. I think that my preteen sets with an ipad on her lap many hours a day, including school hours. Should I limit the time spent using this device while at home? In other words, do you think that this repeated usage is a safe practice? Your response would be much appreciated by me!

Would you mind telling us what school you are talking about? I ask this question because this thread appears in several city forums. I don't think that we should all be thinking ill of our school technology use when the originator of this thread probably had only one school in mind. I am thinking that this is a Bowie concern because of having read the name Monkres.

First of all before you slam your school system, check out the story. Kids lie, brag and steal. Go directly to the teacher and principal. If you don't get what you need, take it to the school board, but don't start stuff on here. Don't create scenarios that are not true based on something your kid came home and said. I have had stories told to me that were so far from the truth it was not funny. Check it out first..And yes, if you don't like the IPad, give it back and get her a book.

Wireless is non-ionizing microwave electromagnetic radiation. Don't freak out over the word radiation, that doesn't mean your skin will slough off. Sunlight is radiation. In other words, it can't cause cell damage or mutation, meaning cancer. The only thing it can do is induce is body tissue heating. A microwave uses close to the same frequency as 2.4GHz wireless (2.45GHz) for an example. Only a microwave sends a strong beam through its target, wireless is low strength. 5GHz wireless (iPads are 2.4/5GHz capable) is even weaker because of the shorter wavelength.

What it boils down to is the time you feel is appropriate for them to use it, in the same way you should limit watching TV or other docile activities. I wouldn't worry about health issues arising from wireless.
