Nocona Inches Towards a Stage 6 Drought
#1 Apr 21, 2014
People, people, people, it makes no sense at all to be watering a football field or any other sports field when people face the possibility of not being allowed to water their gardens. What is more important to life, eating and drinking or playing football, etc.?
Who are these people on the school board who put sports ahead of peoples' very lives? I would wager that there are a bunch of parents on the Board who think that their kids are jocks. Are there any people on the Board who do not have students in sports, probably not? I would think that a good school board would be primarily made up of parents whose students are academic first and, if at all, sports second.
School Board, you are wasting water that has a greater purpose, nourishing God's people.

Can the sports - you obviously don't know who is on you school board. The president has no kids in school. The vice-president has a son that doesn't play football, only basketball and baseball and the baseball complex is watered with effluent water (so I'm told as I did ask). One other member has only a daughter left in school. Another member only has daughters - no sons. One member has a son who will be in high school next year but won't play football. Another is a grandmother who doesn't have kids in school (her son is the Athletic Director). The last member has 3 sons who are all in elementary. So, before you show you ignorance and criticize good people, learn the facts first.
As far as watering the football field, I'm all for it. And I don't have a child that plays football.

Seems like the proper course of action would be to spend $1.5 to $1.8 million and install artificial turf on the football and baseball fields.

It is a bit ironic that we may have to stop watering the gardens that may be providing the nourishment for those athletes who will be playing on fields that were watered while the crops died.
I realize that the school is probably going to dig a well; however, until then, the watering needs to stop. According to the reports, Nocona Lake has only 9 inches to spare before we enter level 6.
If we don't have fruits and vegetables to eat in the summer and fall and can for the winter, our food supplies will greatly diminish. Further, many of us don't have incomes sufficient to pay the rising costs of food in the grocery stores.
I can't even imagine one day of watering being acceptable for sports when food production is in danger. It is obvious that some individuals either have misplaced priorities or a lack of concern for the well-being of people.
