Many years ago the city opted out of allowing other utilities inside the city limits. You have no choice unless you move outside the city limits. Thank James Cantwell for that.

I had heard that we could get other eletric, but we have to go a month with out before the other provider could give you service. Idk why you have to go with out for a month, any truth to that or is it just flat out no way no how? And if thats so is walmart not in the city limits, cause i read on another topix that they had wise.

Simply means if you live inside city limits, you have to use city electric.

That is not correct. There are businesses inside the city limits that are on Wise Electric.

What businesses are you referring to. I don't know of any. There are people outside of city limits(hwy101, 59, and 81) that have city utilities. But no one inside city limits are on wise electric. Very curious what you know....

I called last year. The kicker is you have to pay for a wise electric line to be ran to your home. So you would be out the labor, poles, line, and equipment charges to tap into the nearest wise electric line. Which inside the city limits could be a lot of line to get to a wise electric service line. In the end It wasn't worth it for me to switch because it was going to be several thousand dollars to have the line built to my home. Depending on your area your home is located it could be cheaper.

A few years ago the City of Bowie had a vote for deregulation of City of Bowie Utilities. The city councilors and James Cantwell scared Everyone by telling them if the vote passed we would have to pay higher rates because the City of Bowie owns the poles and lines.. We would have to pay the new electric company more money to use there electricity because they would have to pay the City of Bowie for use of there poles and lines! They we telling people they rates would be 4x higher for another electric company sooo the vote failed! I believe You can read the old Articles in the Bowie News archives... And I believe we as a community can do a petition to again bring up a vote for the deregulation of the City of Bowie utilities.. Much like the petition for sales of liquor.

Let's get one started!!!! However if the "city" can't get our money from over priced electricty what will they jack up next? I believe James Cantwell is on Wise Elec. since he doesn't live in Bowie...very convenient

Didn't we (city of Bowie) just sign a long term agreement with the electric provider to the city of Bowie? Don't get me wrong, I would love to have choices on my electric supplier but I think Cantwell has locked us into a long term obligation that would be cost prohibitive to cancel / break the contract.
I have offers of 30% less than current rates all the time. I know people who pay more for city bills than they do rent or mortgage.

Signs, you are correct about your statement. The city officials have been bullying and strong arming the citizens of this time for along time. What we need is not another petition, what we need is to get our young adults to start voting and get these old narrow minded people out of office. They say it is good to have a business background to be in politics but I don't agree. how about common sense, dedication, loyalty to the voters that voted you in, and love for your community. Here is a thought. I bet Wise Electric would have been in here years ago if Mr. Can't do his job and the rest of our city council were receiving kickbacks. Ahh, the good ole scratch my back I scratch yours. Gotta love it.

"CONCERNED CITITZEN"!!

Just want to make sure that you are someone that has run for these positions (city council, etc.)If not, then, why not?
First of all most of the city council are younger people, not old. Also, since very very few people ever run for city council, school board, mayor, etc. getting young people to vote is mute.
Just wanting to make sure everyone sees your name on upcoming ballotts since you always have such upbeat advise for everyone.

I want to know how a bill can be around $250 for the last two months and shoot up to $700 this month? I get it's going to go up, but dang that's ridiculous.

My bill doubled this month... I was wondering if it was just my family using more power but I have heard many people say they have outrageous bills this month.
