What community outreach programs are in or close to Bowie? I have lived here for a while and haven't seen or heard of any other than Bowie Mission who only offers limited number of services.
What type of outreach program would you like to see in the area?

You know honestly that's not even it. The children really have nothing to do.
Also I read on here all the time about the drug addicts and everyone complaining. Yet NO ONE wants to do anything about it.
Sometimes people need help. Maybe the single mother who loses a job because she has no childcare would not be asking for welfare and food stamps if there was an option to help.
I'm guessing it is people like you who keep this cycle of alive.

Have you considered the head start at the schools? They basically provide all day daycare in a way. They give food and they help the parent with anything and everything. The staff is great I love it. Plus they teach them really well too. There are some churches that put on after school programs for kids too.

The majority of "outreach" programs are what are enabling and sustaining the drug addicts and the sort that abuse welfare - that's why people aren't jumping at the chance to "help" out.
Best thing that could happen here, is that we start a nice big work farm and keep trying to find some employers that actually let people earn a living wage.
Since less than 1/4 of custodial parents ever get the Child Support they are owed, it would let the deadbeat parents pay off the support they don't pay thru their labor. Bet that would clean up a bunch of addicts too. Two birds with one stone.
Too bad more of the kids here are only looking for entertainment and not some kind of community service they could do - helping someone at the nursing home, elderly neighbors or that single mom. A lot of people in the community don't have a lot of resources, but they have a lot to give - life lessons, basic finances from people that actually know how to save and be frugal, music, sewing, gardening etc,
Give them a fish, you feed them for a day - teach them to fish and they can feed themselves.

The aim of a Community Outreach Program is to allow young people or students to explore various volunteer opportunities and learn more about the local nonprofit community. The hope is that young people who participate in this program will discover an agency or volunteer project that they especially enjoy and they will want to continue signing up and volunteering with the project throughout the semester/year. There are several projects you can check into. 1/ Hospice 2/ Main Street Ambassors program 3/ Any of the organizations Lions Club, Rotary, Kiwanis 4/ Advanced Rehab 5/ Mission & Pregnancy Resource Center. I am sure there are other volunteering opportunities here in Montague County. I for one, would like to see a YMCA but we need someone that can facilitate that endeavor.
