Detectives late Monday said they believe a Madison County man killed himself after shooting his wife and 12-year-old stepso, while the boy's twin escaped and called 911.

Authorities said 53-year-old George Allen Utterback Jr. recently had been estranged from his wife but was inside their house just before 5:30 am Monday when he fired several shots.

The son apparently was shot in the face, but pretended to be dead when his stepfather went outside and shot and killed his wife and then himself, officials said.

And he was our shop teacher!!!

Please don't let this thread turn into what we all know it can. These people have families, and some of that family lives in Bowie. Please, out of respect for them, keep this thread civil. Lord knows they are going through enough.

I grew up with George. We were neighbors in Corpus Christi and best friends. We all feel sorry for the families, past and present. Though I have been out of Texas for the past 33 years, George and I had been in touch. I feel sad that he didn't get the help that he needed. Best wishes for the family in Bowie. Be strong. Love You. You in Midway, hang in there too.

I was a student of his in Bowie. I never would have believed he was capable of something like this. My prayers go to all the families involved.

Same as you MAD, I met him once. You people disgust me, thinking it's so amazing that a former teacher shot his wife and child. How dare you. THANK GOD he didnt freak out at that school? Really? It was a shame he did anything like this at all. Seriously, you're all disgusting ass people.

Also i'd like to add, if someone had killed one of YOUR own you would be furious by comments like yours too. George was a coward and died the way he lived.

So PSY you are saying that we are not supposed to be thankful that he didn't freak out at school. I was one of his students and I do THANK GOD that he didn't freak out on us. This doesn't mean that we don't feel bad for his living family. Anyone in that situation needs prayers. So thanking God that our family is safe...tell me again how this classifies as disgusting?

She was my sister, that's why. In my head it was classifying that in some of these comments it was amazement, like "Awesome! My shop teacher was a killer!" this is the most troubling thing my family has dealt with and I dont think it's a good thing he taught any of you. The man was riddled with problems and he took my sister from me.

My thoughts and my prayers are with the families that have been touch by this tragedy. I am a friend of the Utterbacks in Bowie been that way for some yrs. Their hearts are broken for the Families of both parties.
PSY our prayers are with you and your family. Prayers are going up for your nephews and your neice. This had to be horrifying for them all. We lift you all up to God.

PSY-Who was your sister? You say you only met him once. I just find it hard to believe that if she was your sister you would have found a topix column in Bowie Texas to comment on in this time of grief. But if she was truly your sister then my heart goes out to you and every person that this man has hurt is in my prayers.

His wife was my sister. He was a rude and unkempt man with a little man complex. The only reason I bothered to say anything was because this is family, else I don't give my opinion on anything news related.
