Has anyone taken notice of the run down properties and criminal element taking over bowie? Even the level of service including city government has declined. High taxes, horrible service, property values going down, high crime, WTF are we doing here?

Bowie is the pits. Mayor paying attention? Yards look like crap, homeless problems, poor service, high taxes. What needs to happen before something is done.

I agree! Once the "Town Center" or what folks commonly call it, the new Landover Mall" was built the criminal element has taken over. We will be moving from this slum area soon.

Regarding the previous posts I say: BS! I have lived in Bowie all my life and life here is still safe and as good as it gets for suburban living. Is there more crime? Yes. Are there way more people here now? Yes. More people, more crime but also more police too. What heavily populated area doesnt have crime...go to Annapolis and read the police blotter and watch what happens to the new shopping center in Waugh Chapel. Its everywhere. Most of the perpetrators are from outside the Bowie area too... Yes you do see thug looking kids walking around the Town Center but much of them are actually kids who dress the "hip hop style" and they are actually good kids for the most part. Yes, I agree that some houses are run down as there is in any other area as well including the prized AA County area too. Homeless problems....Not! Poor service in Bowie? No way as a matter of fact Bowie (the incorporated part) has had for decades now been voted as one of the top incorporated cities in the US including the services. Now PG Bowie has some more issues as that is also where the higher taxes come into play. It is the county, not the city per se. Bowie is far from a slum...are ya kidding me? I really question your intelligence for these harsh critical comments with no fact to back them up. Bowie while it has changed, is still a great place to live and raise kids with a bad rap. I have lived here since 1967 and it was Crofton where my car was broken into not Bowie!

the ghetto engineers have been planted in bowie,it`s all down hill once the seeds of filth and entitlement are activated via section 8. an emerging ghetto never gets better.

I have now lived in Bowie 15 years. I moved here because of the quiet suburban environment. To be honest, there was a wonderful lack of teenagers and development. Now, there are both. There is less green and a great deal more loitering. I believe that these factors have definitely brought more crime and traffic but as a whole Bowie is still a great place to live. We just need to take more control of our kids and put a halt to the rampant development.

I have lived in Bowie for 10 years. It's not like it used to be. The construction of the town center and other developments in the area attracted people from all walks of life. Bowie will continue to be my home until the good lord permits....

I can't go to the Bowie Brown Center at night. Sometimes when I'm off of work, I don't even feel safe there during the day. Why do you think they built the police station adjacent to it???????? That's a no brainer!
AND IF THE AREA IS AS GOOD AS SOME SAY, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD A THRIVING RELATIVELY NEW SHOPPING CENTER - FULL OF TENANTS- HAVE A FOOD COURT WITH 12 POTENTIAL EATERIES HAVE ONLY 5 PLACES OPEN TO EAT???? WHY ARE THE TENANTS LEAVING????

I believe that most of you are uneducated and speaking about topics that you have no real knowledge of. Most cities will have a degree of teenage crime and there will always be issues around busy shopping centers (that's why I live north of 50) Bowie still has one of the lowest crime rates in the state of Maryland. If you want to bitch about Bowie go live in Brooklyn Park or Glen Burnie. Bowie is one of the nicest areas in the State.

Remember that Bowie is beutiful. Will visit family there this month. Don't let negative people distroy this beauty. The whole layout is a wonderful concept. If additional security is needed, create jobs. Do it the right way, so that all citizens keeep thier dignity. May have to teach social skills to some by example and consistancy.

We moved to Bowie in 2010 to save money w/ lower home prices and to be closer to WDC.

I am moving back to Montgomery County!

Id rather pay more to live and be able to send my now school age child to a FREE quality public school.

And before anyone tries to come w/ "my child does great in PG schools" - yes, it's very easy to succeed when the curriculum is trash. Why do you think private schools are so popular in PGCo.

**I digress**

I am sick of the excessive foot traffic, the crime, the loud neighbors and the overall feeling of "living in the hood".
