My mother was a patient there for about 6 months in the early 1940's (not sure exactly when). She went there because she had a sister who died of TB when she was 19, and because my mom had lived with her and took care of her before she died, they were afraid my mom may have contracted it, too. I think they saw something on an xray that they were concerned about. Anyhow, she ended up not having TB after all, and actually lived to be a very healthy 92. She told us about her being there, and never had anything bad to say about her stay there.
Hello, I noticed your post about your mother being a patients at Glenn Dale. My name is Victoria and I'm a student at St. Mary's College of Maryland and I'm conducting a research project on Glenn Dale that focuses on patients experiences with the hospital. Would you be willing to share your story with me? It would be extremely beneficial as the project will bu used to convince the Board of National registry to make Glenn Dale an historic site and be eligible for restoration. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you

My mother Katherine Majors and my father Joseph Biscoe were both patients at Glen Dale during the forties. If any knows how I can locate their patient records please contact me at mdslim2004@yahoo.com.

The main reason so much was left behind was because of the cost of moving everything to another facility was too great, most of the items that were left were out dated or not able to be used anymore. As far as the paper work, well the hospital operated prior to the use of computers, so all of the paper work and files was just going to be destroyed anyway(all out dated, no paitents were housed durring the last 2 years of operation) so all the old and worthless things were just left behind.

Being that durring that time the hospital was run by the District of Columbia you could try with their vital records department, as well the health department, the will at least be able to point you in the right direction

I am researching Sarah Hawkins who died at Glen Dale TB Hospital in 1938. Trying to find when she entered the hospital and any pertinent information available.

Has anyone had a bad run in with the police that patrol the area? Ive heard both that they are strict and lenient and wanted to confirm which one they tend to be. Also, is there an easy way to reach the childrens building without being detected? It seems so wide open. If anyone has helpful information about exploration it would be great if you could email me at crazysage620@aim.com thanks!

does anyone know what happened to the patients once they shut the hospital down? i've always been kind of curious about that.
I wonder the same thing. But I'm doing a project on it in school so hopefully I research it and know the answer ASAP!!
