He made the statement that he did not want any industry in Haralson because he wanted to retire in a peacefull town. He said people could work in Atlanta. Only after he left office did any meaningful industry move into the county.

Honey i never claimed to do anything for you unlike Speaker Murphy. I was also not being paid by the taxpayers so I was not a burden on you or any others. Merry Christmas.

Are you telling me that there are no Blacks in Tallapoosa. I happen to know that a poster on here known as THASISTER is a white girl married to a black man. With a name like dectective, we expect more.

Who said there was. If you know the sister as well as you claim, ask her who has been defending her on this board long before you showed up. That response was to the individual who said there were no blacks in Talla.

Now I might be inclined to kiss thasister's ass, I heard she was HOT!!! I will see her at the trial.

His career spanned decades. I won't say that over the course of that time that Tom did not benefit from his position. However, he did do a tremendous amount for the City of Bremen. I-20 would have gone through Carrollton instead of Bremen and Tallapoosa if not for Tom Murphy. Tom saw to it that the Bremen City Schools received as much financial support as the state could provide making it one of the best school systems in the state for a town it's size. Then there are all the individual people that Tom helped to get jobs or deal with other problems. Tom helped get money for the Bremen Recreation Department to build tennis courts and repair what was then called "The City Pool" where many of us spent at least part of our summers. I knew the man personally as well as his family. I won't say Tom was an angel but he does deserve to be respected for a long career helping people in Bremen. It is a shame that the people who post here are so young and know nothing of the History of the City of Bremen and the leaders of the town who worked hard to make the town into a great small town. The decline in the clothing business that supported Bremen and the county as a whole, was not the fault of Tom Murphy nor did he do anything to keep industry out as is rumored. Bringing in new industry is the job of the of the mayors and city councils of the cities in the county. However, it is a very difficult task to rebuild local industry after being hit with such a huge decline from the industrial base Bremen had dating from the 1930's through the early 1980s. The decline of the textile industry also saw a lot of tax dollars evaporate from the city making promoting the city on restricted budgets more difficult.

Tim, You have spoken the truth.

Mr. Murphy was Bremen, and who didn't like him were people who did not and does not have clue
how government works.

It has been a couple years since Bill took office, and I have not heard a word on anything that is directly related to a building or an improvement in Haralson County or Bremen with Bill's influence. I may be wrong, but if someone would enlighten me, I would be gratefull.

Honda Transmission was slated to be built closer to the van assembly plant in Ala. Bill lobbied hard to bring it to Haralson co. I am not sure it was worth all of the tax breaks the company got, I guess only time will tell.

Growing up in Bremen, I was always grateful for what Tom did. I too know his family well. His sone Mike is an outstanding person and a very fair judge. But as I grow older, I look back and see how other towns were slighted. Tom was elected to represent all of Ga. not just Bremen. This is why there is a disproportiate number of state employees hailing from Bremen. What if you were from Carrollton and more qualified for a position that Tom lobbied (or dictated) to be filled from his town. This is just one of the things that is wrong with politics in general. And you are right, Bremen was and is a great town.

There was a reason I-20 went where it did. It all bordered Murphy's land. Where did the land come from around the Bremen Industrial Park? I believe Murphy owned a lot of that as well. Just because Murph put money in Bremen does not make him a good person. In fact Murphy was corrupt and used his position as Speaker to line his own pockets. And lets not even talk about the intimidation factor he used while working as an attorney.

The part about an attorney is true. I had a dui case pending, he made sure the officer did not show up to court that day, case dismissed. I had to pay double what the going rate for a lawyer was at that time, but it was worth it. He represented several of my friends that way also. It would only work if your ticket came from BPD and sometimes the county sherriffs

The land for the Ind. park was actually owned by the Bennets. This was Tom's inlaws. He also was able to get the road in Devil's Kitchen paved. He owns a large amount of land there. I can think of many road improvements in the county that would take precidence over "the kitchen".

Tom may not have been a saint, but all of the projects whether they benefited Tom directly or not would not have happened at all without him being where he was. Ok so Devil's Kitchen should not have been paved. Well it was with state money and no road would have been paved in Harlason county without Tom on board to get that state money so he may have lined his pocket a little but he made that one road better. I can tell you that Haralson county is a better place because Tom Murphy held the position he did. You think it's a dump now, it would look like rural Polk county without I-20 and the Bremen School System and other things Tom brought to the table.
