Things are gettin' pretty eerie around here with all the misfortunes our three Manhattan Mayors' have had. One was electricuted, another's business burned down and now Naughton. Who's next! Stephen King could pen a novel titled "The Mayors", or worse the ghost of Edgar Allen Poe might reappear with his creepiness.

When I first saw this post I wondered how long before some idiot took this tragedy and made into something nasty and mean. Now I have my answer. Just a few days.
How can anyone feel anything but sorrow for both the Naughten family and the two people who were killed.
Those killed were the son and daughter of parents who are mourning their loss. Should they have been where they were? No. Should they have been in the road? No.
Ill bet if we all searched our memories we have sometime in our lives put ourselves in some position that if the outcome were slightly different our lives would have changed forever. Mrkankakee you are indeed a slug.

Who said they were fist fighting because its not in the paper.Dont try to save your trustee ass,Manhattan Trustee Mike Naughton said he was returning home from Ohio State University with his son Zach along U.S. 52 about 2:20 a.m. Friday morning and never saw two people standing in the road..Then he said...The car was running, the doors were open, and the next thing I know I hit someone," he said. His son called 911 while Naughton turned his van around to shine his headlights on the roadway and realized he struck two people, he said.
so,if he seen the car on the other side of the road he wasn't looking straight ahead. So maybe thats why he didnt see them.

A Dodge van driven by 53-year-old Michael Naughton of Manhattan struck the two who were standing in the westbound lane.

Naughton immediately pulled over to offer assistance to the two people who were struck, police said.

Logan and Neal were transported to Silver Cross Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Naughton was not injured.

Police are investigating the possibility that a domestic altercation led to the crash because a witness reported hearing an argument just before the collision.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

I agree that they didn't deserve to die. Had they been seen, I'm sure they would not of been hit, regardless of what they were doing.

As tragic as the circumstances may be, that fact remains that there are legitimate questions to be pondered concerning this accident and the impact on the community. People want to believe this is not an every day occurrence in and around Manhattan, but a weird pattern is emerging and that is what should be of concern to topix readers - what force or forces of nature are thrusting this and other diabolical events and circumstances on the people that reside here in central Will County. I'm getting a little spooked.
