Why are the Police Officers in Bourbon paid so little? Saint James Police Officers just received a 5,000.00 raise (full amount) for Cost of living and because of the competitive market out there between Police Departments.
These Officer risk their lives everyday for us. Majority of them are new, but we believe they are worth keeping.
How about it Mayor.... Its time for you to do your job along with the Aldermen. This is why we pay you. And if you haven't heard, the town's people are not happy how you and the Aldermen have been handling our Town.
I am a Mother of four little children. I would like to raise my kids in Bourbon and have a nice life. But the way I see it, we'll better off to move to Sullivan, "Where the town is growing" instead of a town that is dead against Growing...

Part II

Do we expect the officers of Bourbon to risk their lives to help us, when we (the town of Bourbon) cannot even afford to get them the right equipment to do their jobs. I just learned that they are using old Bullet Proof Vest, some of them are over 20 years old. Some of them don't even fit the Officers. This can't be true. Is it? Is the City of Bourbon Street Department driving old beat up vehicles? No.!!! Is the Middle School and Elementary Schools using old equipment such as computers? No!!! Is the City Hall a old run down building? No!!! The Police Department deserves to have the best equipment possible. Their lives and the residents of Bourbon depend on this.
Why don't they carry Tasers? It's a tool that regardless of size, the officer can protect himself/herself or the residents of Bourbon. I just read that the cost for a Taser is a 1,000.00. I believe its well worth it. Can you put a price tag on saving someone's life.
I'm getting tired of hearing that the town of Bourbon is a joke. That its own Mayor and Aldermen are treating people unfairly, acting Godlike.
Election time will come around, if things don't change, we'll have to do the changing ourselves by electing someone else who will work with the residents of Bourbon instead of against them.

Oh my gosh...I never would have guessed that the Police Officers in Bourbon were paid so little.
I do have a higher respect for the Police. There was a pursuit through town a couple of months ago. I seen the police officer who was picking up all those drugs and stuff on Cedar Street. Then I seen him get carried off by the Ambulance. They have a rough job, I know for a fact the some of the people here in Bourbon want to see the Department fail. I do not. I depend on them for my safety as well as my family's safety. I'm out of town a lot and I feel better that they are patrolling the area.
I always tell my children that if anything happens to get ahold of a Police Officer. They will help you. It pains me to hear that the Department is using outdated equipment, and our so under paid. I did hear about the raise that the Saint James Police Department received. Good for them. I hope our Mayor and other towns people are reading this. We have to support our Police Officers and the hard job they are doing. Its worse enough they have to deal with criminals of all sorts. Lets make the Officers here in Bourbon feel wanted. Lets tell them that they are needed here in Bourbon and pay them a descent wage.
Its tough everywhere as we all know. The price of gas fluctuates so bad, everything is going up. Lets figure out if we can do the same as the Saint James Police Department. We definitely don't want our Officers to get jobs elsewhere. We need them to much.

we have lost another good cop recently due to this problem. Bourbon screwed him out of his raise and back pay, curently i believe he is suing the city for back pay. this is why bourbon allways gets stuck with bad cops. I don't want to see the police department fail, i want the opposite. I want to see the illegal dirty laundry be taken out of the PD. Then we can get some good cops and pay them fairly to keep them here instead of looking for better police jobs elsewhere. Im tired of every time i meat a good cop, months later they will have a new job somewhere else because of bourbon screwing them on pay raises and back pay, plus many things unmentioned. look at some of the other forums on here to find out more.

Seems like things never change. I was there while Scot was the chief, and there doesn't appear to be any improvement. I wonder at times about the David West firing, and Scot Mathenia at the same time. When I was there, I would see citizens come up to me talking about the job I was doing based on talks around town, and their listening to the scanner. At night I liked to be roaming the streets. Was supposed to get a raise after one year, didn't happen. Arrested Jimmy Simmerly for DWI on Pine Street one night, and I still believe that started my demise there. I don't think my drug arrests, illegal allian captures, or the cock-fighting stop on the interstate ever came into play. I had tried in the past to return to Bourbon, but I believe that Mayor Armstrong has me black balled due to the Simmerly arrest. I had left for another department because of better pay, then when that was pulled out from under me, I had attempted reinstatement at Bourbon because the date on my resignation was still a future date. I had also included that it was pending the other job. When trying to withdraw the notice, I was basically told that the council had a new direction they wanted the department to go, and they didn't want me included.
The police department there needs a board that will back them, and it still appears that hasn't happened. I have heard too many times about the patrol car being wrecked on Rock Rd. There has been two things consistant that I don't like.
First, why wasn't the then, Chief Adam Hilse at the scene at any time, and what was it with Armstrong and Boast being there, showing only concern for the car, and none for the officer involved. Then the stories about Armstrong giving the officer the third degree on the scene still gets me irate. Untill there is a mayor and board of aldermen that are willing to support the police department, they will always have problems with keeping good officers.

You people are so dumb. If you want to know all of this go ask the city council instead of useless speculation.
