I hear Cuba is going to get more officers. I SURE HOPE we don't get any more in Bourbon! We don't have enough people in town to write any more tickets to! It,s horrible, The wife and I are about 50. We have not been pulled over as many times in the last 30 years as we have been stoped in the short time we have lived here in Bourbon!
Everyone in my neighbourhood fears driving to town for fear of all of the traps. The one on N right out of town has 5 or 6 signs within a few thousand feet that keep changing the speed limit, One of the speed limit signs is cleverly shrunken and fit into a yellow warning sign.
Folks that know about Bourbon police don't want to drive trough town to come and see us, The women go out of their way to go all the way to Sullivan to do the shoping. And I don't blame them! I wonder how many citizens we have and how many traffic stops and tickets have been recorded?
Our very own police force is robbing us blind! Should they not be busy protecting us? Solving and preventing crimes as opposed to waiting on the side of the road like vultures waiting to pounce on one of their very own people. They are also driving away business from our local merchants! I am very surprised that there are not any complaints or public outcry. At least none that have been made public.
I see bumper stickers on cars that say "If ya want a ticket shop in Bourbon" Not just one I see a bunch of them. What could we do as a community to put a stop to this treatment we are receiving from our very own force?
Any Ideas ?

Fire your police chief perhaps?? Bourbon has extended it's "city limits" along I-44 clear out to LEASBURG!! Why?? Ticket revenue from the Interstate I'd guess, what other reason????.... Guess if you can't raise revenue the HARD way
(as in either FAIR or LEGAL)....use the cops for "revenue enhancement"!!!! And some wonder why cops aren't respected anymore.....

I guess it,s better that they are on 44 instead on stoping everybody in town.Maybe that will give some of us a chance to get to town without getting stoped.

The town of Sullivan is no better then Bourbon.Everytime Sullivan gets in behind a car they are running the plates. If we drive our old car we get pulled over and asked to see our insurance. but if we drive our new car we don't have a problem at all.Now why is that?
Do they think everyone who drives an older model car don't have insurance?
Maybe they think cause the car is old that the people may be poor and can't afford insurance who knows.
People shouldnt have to be afraid of the law or going to town to shop.
I don't understand how Bourbon can sit on a state hwy and give tickets but they are.
I guess thats called hard up for money for the city.
Cops want to make sure they get a paycheck.

if you're going though bourbon on i-44, go the speed limit. they [cops] are not protecting the the people who live there, they are gold digging on interstate and you pay for it in taxes. glad i don'nt live there.good for bussiness?...lost my bussiness.

About time Bourbon finally got a decent Police Department. Don't know any of the new Officers, but have heard lots of great things about them. Keep up the good work and keep in mind that your job doesn't allow you the perk of having everyone like you.

Hubby and I wont go to Bourbon to shop! Everytime we try to the police pull us over. Does the city need money so badly that they extort it from THEIR OWN PEOPLE?

Well I'm not one of the cops and I'm very pleased with the new Police Department. After all we've been through in the past, it's quite a pleasant change.

I was going to talk this over with the mayor. "Issues about the police constantly harassing OUR OWN PEOPLE" Guess what, He is up to no good as well.

How did he obtain the city property right at I 44 ?

Who cleaned it up? Who had to pay for the clean up?

Right now I,m thinking of Elliot Davis Channel 2. Perhaps if the media were to start looking around we could get our city officials investigated.

Went to town for dinner a few days ago I saw 3 people get pulled over in less than 1 hour. I am checking now to see how much it will cost to have cameras with audio installed in my vehicle showing time-date-and speed.

Make sure that you constantly check ALL of the lights on your auto especially the license plate light. Dont drive an old beat up car either! try to keep your auto clean and have matching wheels or hubcaps quiet muffler ect.

If you dare to venture to town I wish you good luck and hope it wont cost you an arm and a leg for BS tickets. Has anyone noticed we have almost no stores left in town? They are all shutting due to lack of shoppers. NO ONE wants to go to town and get tickets. I saw a bumper sticker on a truck that said "If you want a ticket Shop In Bourbon" I love my home but the wife and I are thinking of moving somewhere Shall we say without so much police protection.

I recently heard that the Bourbon Police Officers are harassing our children and turning them into snitches and lying to them about what their sentences will be if they do not help them. I think that if they have to rely on these kids to do their work for them then they should be paying them. I am not making excuses for what these kids have done wrong, but I think they shouldn't be scared into giving info that they don't want to share.

Are you saying that Police Departments should pay our kids when they get into trouble and confess?

As a parent of a teenager. I would hope that by giving the police the name of who is supplying our children with drugs etc, it will take that dealer out of the loop of our children. If that means that they have snitched on someone else, then so be it. If more parents would take the time and pay attention to what their kids are doing now a days and let them know that there are reprocusions for the actions of what they are doing, then maybe some of the kids will have more of a chance. Instead of hearing the statement from the parents of the kids saying, "I have to come up and pick up my minor child because they are out doing something they are not supposed to be. The officer's are just picking on the kids. Or the officer is just inconveniencing my plans" Would you as a parent rather have them come and knock on your door in the middle of the night and tell you "I'm sorry sir/mam, but your child was killed tonight because they were out doing something they weren't supposed to be doing". A kid or anyone else should not be "paid" for giving information to a police officer regarding illegal activity. Whether a person is giving information regarding a drug dealer, a theif, or even a murderer, it is their moral responsibility to do so. Which goes for everyone, not just our children. I for one would hope that if someone witnessed a crime against me, my family, or friends, they would come forward anyway. Not just for money.

My sister had her car broken into at her job in Bourbon. The guy stole her wallet, credit cards, and cash. He then went to Sullivan gas station and used my sisters credit cards without having to show i.d. The gas station released the video of the guy pumping gas and purchasing cigarettes, lighters, and etc. The Bourbon police department kept telling my sister that they had no way to watch the video. They put it off until my sister kept bothering them. Finally, they released the tape to my sister and ended up giving her the wrong one. To this day, they have no idea where the tape went. What a joke of a police department to not even be able to take care of evidence. No wonder why there are so many criminals there? Apparently, you do not have to worry about getting causght when they have all the eveidence but just dont know how to handle it!!! My 6 year old son takes better care of his videos.

Bourbon cops need to be cleaned out just like they did a short time ago. Isn't the mayor in charge, Then police chief, then the Leo? So does that make the mayor the top traffic Nazi? It's horrible here, Every trip to town I see at least 2 people pulled over! If I stay in town for a while I will see more than that pulled over. I wonder who to contact with an issue like this? Governor? State Rep? State Patrol? Anyone have any ideas?

I,m not a bit shocked! The coppers are too busy hunting down their own citizens so they can write them a ticket! They prey on the town folk as if we are food! I guess we are in a way, We supply them with enough ticket money they can buy anything they want!
