I left a comment on this page three years ago (I reported how Zackheim had filed a knowingly false police report to remove a reporter from his premises, by claiming the man had a concealed weapon)
I first became interested in this story when I heard about the film "The Night Listener" in 2006, and researched its background. The story of Vicki Johnson's hoax interested me, and when I read on Wikipedia that her husband had been arrested for child abuse, I found a certain level of irony. I pretty much forgot about the whole thing after seeing the movie (it was mediocre, to say the least), and for the past three years I have never once checked on the updates regarding the hoax or Zackheim's legal issues. Earlier today, I happened upon a review of The Night Listener and it reminded me of the whole hoax. I went to Wikipedia and found some updates on Vicki Johnson (namely: the photos of "Tony" finally turned out to be the pictures of a child in her 4th grade class many years ago). I also read about Zackheim being arrested for Medicaid fraud. All I can say is: karma's a bitch. This couple is obviously very disturbed -- and shameless in their cover-ups -- and they're finally getting what's been coming to them for years. I hope to God that Keith Olbermann does some sort of special report on the whole thing. I know he's wary of discussing his involvement in the hoax for obvious reasons, but I think more people should be made aware of the developments. Oprah should update her viewers, too, considering she plugged the book back in the '90s. It seems like this is a really interesting story just waiting to get national exposure. I think it's just a little too complicated and long-winded for most people to notice -- but hopefully it will eventually achieve more recognition and this pair of slimeballs will be put away for a long time. |

Update - from Guam....
KUAM reporter Mindy Aguon just reported that Zackheim's sentencing has been pushed back to August 24th. Amazing that she got the first update that is showing up on the internet! |
||||
|
Yep, the judge granted a motion to postpone the sentencing date until Monday, August 24, 2009.
Mindy has her stateside sources... Justice will prevail. |

The latest word is that the sentencing date for Dr Zackheim's guilty plea to Medicaid Fraud, in U.S. District Court in South Bend, Indiana, has been continued to October 1, 2009 at 1:00pm.

In the case of the United States versus Dr. Marc Zackheim and Associates in Clinical Psychology, P.C., Marc Zackheim has been sentenced to thirteen (13) months incarceration. Will post when more information is available.

From KUAM television news, Guam...tonight's broadcast:
by Mindy Aguon The owner of Associates in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Marc Zackheim, will spend more than a year behind bars following a sentencing hearing in South Bend, Indiana today. Several months ago Zackheim pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud after the FBI raided his group homes in Indiana. The Guam Department of Mental Health had intended to award Zackheim a contract for therapeutic group home services on Guam but the agency was ordered to redo the request for proposal. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Indiana, Zackheim was sentenced to 13 months behind bars |

Hi Mindy, I might be interested in making a proposal for a therapeutic group home in Guam. I currently own and operate two therapeutic group homes in Indiana. Is there a contact person or could you please pass this on. Thanks, Changing Lives.

Changing Lives:
You might want to do some internet research on the situation in Guam. The Dept. of Mental Health is under a Permanent Injunction, with the Federal Judge coming in three weeks to decide if the Department will be put into receivership. All is not well. Please keep in mind, the DMHSA awarded the contract to Dr. Zackheim. He was their choice to run group homes here. Vendors do not get paid on time. Although it may sound like paradise, there are some snakes in the garden. |

There are difficulties in Indiana as well! I'm interested in making the difference in these young peoples lives. There are snakes in the gardens of Indiana as well, but we deal with them. We have a passion for helping our youth which is the motivation required to persevere in difficult situations. Are we clear on Zackheim's motivation???

Hi Mindy, just following up on your last reply. I'm interested to know about the snakes in the gardens. I want to make a difference. I'm aware that it would not be easy, but things in life that are easy usually aren't worth having. Please let me know if I am wasting my time. Thank you, Changing Lives.

From the Chicago Tribune:
Traffic was backed up for hours in Lake Bluff this afternoon after a 59-year-old Lake Bluff man had a heart attack and died while driving his vehicle, officials said. Mark Zackheim, of the 1800 block of Shore Acres Drive, had the heart attack before his van struck some trees on the west side of Sheridan Road at Arbor Drive at about 1:15 p.m., Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said. When officers arrived at the scene, two citizens were providing CPR to Zackheim, police said. Zackheim was taken to Lake Forest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 p.m., police said. |

At least adolescent male clients won't be at risk any more ever again.
