Good times! I used to go there when I was in my twenties. Always good bands, the drinks were reasonable, and lots of hot chicks! If you didn't show up with a date, nine times out of ten you left with one. The only downside was the rep as a 'bucket of blood'. Fights were common, especially after they closed, but all in all- good times!

The Speakeasy was a great place ! There were SO many clubs around in those days....The Joint In The Woods up in Parsippany, The Showplace in Dover,The Arrow Lounge in Scotch Plains, The Stanhope House, just to name a few....
Don`t even get me started on all the places up Greenwood Lake and Staten Island....:-)

I worked at the Speakeasy in 1970-71 as a bouncer. It was a great place to go out and have fun. There was a band that played there a lot...can't remember the name of the band, but the lead singer was Bobby West. Yes, Art Stock owned the place along with the Play Pen Lounge in Sayreville, the Sea Girt Inn and a few other places. The general manager of the Speakeasy was Jan Wirtz. It's gone now. Just a field where it used to be. I live in FL now, but reminisce often. I miss the old place.

Was also known as the Love Machine, unfortunately the former mayor of Bound Brook lived right by the opening and several times tried to get it closed down, as well many accidents occured at the intersections on the rail road tracks. At that time there were no gates and people would try and beat the trains.

The R Band is known to me very well, they were my neighbors and praticed in my Barn in Somerset. The lead singer was Tom Fuller, drummer was Wayne and so on. Tommy Fuller lives in Asbury Park nj and still plays guitar & piano. Still a weekend warrior for music.
