Yep, no Hispanic. I'm sure many Latinos were disappointed at the list of candidates. But just remember, the population explosion of Hispanics around LA County is largely the direct result of an out-of-control illegal immigration.

Retired in May 2007 with over 35 years on LAPD. All of my 35+ years were in the streets.
During that time I partnered up with Charlie Beck more than once while working what is now called Pacific Division. I even had the privilege of meeting his dad when he was Chief of West Bureau.
Charlie was one of the three best street Cops I ever worked with. He is a great guy, an asset to the Community, and a credit to both the Department and his family. He will go a long way in bringing the Department and Community together.
Bravo Mayor Villaraigosa, on you selection!

The Mayor must really be short, because Charlie Beck is only 5 feet 2 inches tall. Other than that, hopefully Charlie will realize that promoting people because they have big uns and are young and pretty , are non White, and are dumb to boot must be stopped at all cost. He should demand Resignations from the top Brass , all of them and replace them with Real Proactive Police People. Then he needs to grow a pair and back up his Rank and File everytime no matter what. BTW Chief Bratton did not have big shoes. He bought his in the Little Boys section and is Fragile.

First of all he will be the Chief of Police for the City of Los Angeles. The County has an elected Sheriff.
You are absolutely right, just because you are a good cop, does not mean you will be a good Chief. However, in this case he was not a street cop one day, and Chief the next. He has proven himself all the way up the ladder to his current position, Deputy Chief in charge of all LAPD Detectives.
You don't get jobs like that because you are a "Good Street Cop," you get a job like that because you are an extrodinary person. One who has proven themself in more ways than one.
I spoke with him and the Mayor this Wednesday past. I told him that I felt he would make a Great Chief, that I had been retired for just over two years, but that I would put the uniform back on for him.
Lets hope and pray for two things. First that he doesn't take me up on my offer, and second that I am right about the kind of Chief he will make!

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Taurus

It's important that you keep that famous bull-headedness in check over the next couple of weeks. Be cool, calm and sensible and you'll find that you end up with things correctly and tidily done. Stick to the straight and narrow, no matter what the distractions or irritations around you. If you think outside the square, you'll begin to see how visualisation can change and shape your life. Trust your hunches and be ready to move on them.
