Propert tax and sales tax revenues are falling. But, hey. Let's spend some money!

Think about it this way. You've got this wonderful idea, you pitch it to everyone and try to get it out to work. Suddenly the opposition stops pushing back, you "win".(It takes you a little while to realize that the reason the opposition stopped pushing back is that you've reached the edge of the cliff and they know that if you push a little farther, you'll be over it and they won't have to deal with you again.)

The City of Manhattan Beach has plenty of money from tax revenues and there is a lack of problems. The infrastructure needs no work, the schools are flush with cash, and the prospects for the future are unlimited. Consultants need to be hired to find areas such as a Boy Scout meeting place or the fight against plastic bags to channel the excess money. Public transportation is something EVERYONE in Manhattan Beach desparately wants. Look at the overuse of the existing bus system.

Only in government can you dress up a bus as a trolley, then wonder why no one uses it.

If MB government actually thinks its citizens are clamoring for a "trolley" system, then either lay down tracks or build an overhead tramway, but please, don't think for a minute that but a handful of us will wait 20-30 minutes for a bus, so we can clear up traffic for someone else.

They should run the trolley in a big loop so people do not need to transfer. It could be similar to torrance #5 on crenshaw blvd/pch. It could be closer to being square shaped than the torrance one.

Really had it right! The proposed Trolley will be on a loop through the entire city - stopping at the MBUSD Middle School, the worst traffic nightmare in the city!

If any of you lived here you would understand the problem. Since none of you do, it would be impossible to explain it.

Finally, the council did not approve the Trolley system [did you actually read the article?] but merely agreed to spend up to $27,000 to determine the feasibility of it and determine if any grant money [federal or state] is available.

And no, the MBUSD does not have a bus system, so maybe removing 200 cars a day from the local streets is not such a bad idea?

But Fred of Beverly Hills must like smog and traffic - maybe we all drive up there more!!!

My firm is working on this project. We are interested in your idea. Could you send some information regarding your idea to Torrance #5.
Thanks

Manhattan Beach would not solve the problem by doing what has been suggested. The town was laid out poorly with no foresight relative to the future. Streets throughout the city are too narrow and complicate any efficient movement of vehicles. Were it possible to somehow deal with the huge flow of traffic down PCH(rerouting and/or widening streets significantly)the possibility of creating what used to be a "small town" with a terrifc small town feel could perhaps again prevail. Wouldn't that be a dream come true for those who once knew the town many years ago?

All of the naysayers are envious that Manhattan Beach may get a green sustainable, cost-effective trolley to improve their transportation system. Just because your cities are doing it is not a reason to trash-rate the posts. Shame on you!

You are right ... I even saw two different buses today in the area and they only had 60% to 75% of the seats available ... they were swamped with riders about 6 each .. and no there is not plenty oif money avail ..even if there were is that the reason and intellect we need to start spending it ..thats why Washington and Sacramento is in trouble we have it let's spend it .. how about NO NEW SPENDING for awhile ..

"Ripoff" - Care to provide some support for your comment, both for how this would be a taxpayer ripoff or a steal from the Dial-a-Ride program?

Or do you prefer not to have an adult discussion? Ok if you don't, it would be nice to know, though.
