The decision of our new Mayor to reduce enforcement of red light laws may have been made to promote safer driving by encouraging spectacular T-Bone accidents. These will remind everyone to not venture into an intersection on a green light without looking both ways before moving forward, gradually despite the horms blaring behind them.
Of course this will mean that less cars get through the intersection on each light but the aggressive drivers who choose to run red lights will be pleased, most likely provide greater cash support for the Mayour's next campaign.
It the object of this decision is to speed up traffic it seems probable the opposite will happen, with cautious drivers causing fewer cars to get through intersections and accidents tying up traffic more often..
As long as a majority of San Diegans prefer this breed of politician they will have to suffer the consequences, paying higher insurance rates and greatly increasing the likelihood of their death by collision.

I still don't get the logic of removing them?

Because red light cameras cause more accidents than they prevent. Many people slam the brakes to prevent running a red light, thus causing fender benders. Also, the vast majority of people getting red light tickets get it for making a right turn without stopping completely. In all, they suck money from people without really preventing crashes.

Newsflash, you are suppose to stop at a red light before making the turn...

The ORANGE light is sufficient to alert normally capable drivers that a RED light will happen soon.
Turning right on RED without stopping is a fools game besides being illegal.
When it become habitual the odds of picking off a pedestrian or bicyclist increase significantly. The privilege of operating a car on a public road does not grant us a right to endanger, intimidate, or inconvenience anyone, in other cars or afoot.
If our laws are just an inconvenience to some drivers, rather than sensible regulation, then these persons would do us all a favor by migrating to a less lawful community.
The Mayor already has several bodies to chalk up to his pandering, victims of red light runners emboldened by his invitation to break the law. There will be mor, but unfortunately he cannot be called to account for the carnage caused by his rejection of a wise decision by the City Council.
