I moved to Longmont from Maryland in the early 70's and left around 77. I loved Longmont, best town and state. I left because my husband wanted to move to Pa. to get a better job. Really he was messing around with too many women and we had to move since I am sure his boss said Politely quit or I will fire you. I wish I never did leave for Pa was not my kind of place thus I live in florida now. Yes I encourage you to move there. It has changed alot I have heard but do some research before you do. I took the newspaper before but now you can get it online. Good Luck!!

It depends on what you want from a town. We loved it when we first moved here around 12 years ago, it was a good place to raise our kids. Things are changing though the illegal immigrant problem is growing fast than the city is as are the drug and crime problems.
We love out house and out area is still nice but the traffic is getting worse as the city attempts to grow without proper foresight. I used to walk down town but the neighborhood I have to go through makes it unsafe anymore. There are a couple good restaurants and there are lots of things that go on down town like artwalks, free concerts and such. The nightlife is not really much to talk of though as most of the clubs that had music and dancing are either out of business since the smoking law changes or are real dives. |

When I was there, Niwot was being built as the second area High School. Now there are four high schools ?
I believe the population was around 50,000, then. What's it now, 100K-200K ? Longmont was great place to live, then. Now ? |

Depends on what you're looking for but I wouldn't recommend it. I moved here 10 years ago and it was the first place I lived, for about a year. It was ok, but now the illegals/gang/drug/crime have grown and it's out of control. It's a hick town. It had potential but they let the riff-raff take over. Not saying there aren't good people that live there. They're just overshadowed now.

Just Curious, it sounds like you live in a less desired area. Most of Longmont it not like that.
James...Visitlongmont.org or the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce for more info about Longmont. Also visit downtownlongmont.com for info about all our great community events. You can also get a free relocation packet at: http://www.longmont-colorado-living.com/ |

I've lived in Longmont my entire life. Okay, so maybe it's not THAT long; but it has been long enough to see it change..for the worse. What everyone is saying is true, aside from Longmont not being as Just Curious says...that's false. They're right

Longmont is an extremely desirable place to live. The scenery here is almost magical. Sweeping views of the Front Range, verdant fields and lush wilderness paths are but a few of the remarkable gifts enjoyed here.
By many measures, Longmont is a great place to live. One measure I site all the time - because I am a Realtor - is its affordability. Compare home prices here first. Boulder is appealing to a young set and has a much more diverse spectrum of entertainment, education and dining offerings. However, Longmont is 20 minutes away from many of these offerings and has great dining and recreation opportunities of its own. As for crime rates, Boulder County has one of the lowest rates in the state and probably the country. Longmont has a very professional police force. The community is very fortunate to have the fine uniformed officers it has - and that includes the area's fire fighters. Longmont is not perfect, but it's people are close. Some are working hard at making Longmont a great community. The Highway 119 corridor could use some additional shopping. A good theater is often mentioned. The good news is the city council is addressing current and future needs. Longmont is a solid contender for NASA tech park. High tech, biotech and aerospace are already here. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay area and the remote Four Corners area. These were great places to live, but I prefer to live here for a host of reasons. I spend plenty of time in my car, so living where it is less congested was a big factor. The prospect for economic growth here is real. Dining and entertainment here is some of the best in the world. I loved the Bay Area and rugged and remote San Juan County. For me, though, this is the best place in the world. SuZ Alvarez PML of Longmont |

We got a job offer in 2006 and rented in Gunbarrel while we checked out the surrounding areas. Longmont actually rose to the top when comparing criteria. We were able to get a 3000+ square foot home for $250K in the area for Longmont Estates Elementary, Westview Middle and Silver Creek High. I won't disparage the other schools, but we looked at schools first within our hoem price range. Downtown is a bit mixed, some parts need revitalizing but for the most part, we have a wonderful time at all of the events that the City sponsors. The mall is in need of a facelift and tenants, but that will come in time. I feel safe here. Yes, there are drugs and crime in every city but seems as if we are not seeing much of that at all in our neighborhood and the surrounding area, but there are pockets of it just like anywhere. Just check the crime stats for the neighborhoods you are interested in. We have Front Range Community College which I attended for a career change at age 50 and I loved it, my soon-to-graduate high schooler will attend. The boys have a multitude of great friends since moving here. Most people are friendly. There is good proximity to medical facilites, public transportation, shopping ( except for very upscale stores like Sax), senior services, recreation. I have to say that I have not regretted being here at all. you might find even better home-price values now at a better rate. You have very good proximity to the highways to get to neighboring towns as well. We have a great public outdoor pool at Sunset with a sandy 'beach', good restaurants, funky fun stores. I say check it out.
