I will never shop at Premier Liquor again!!!

I am not a regular customer at Premier Liquor, but I received a gift certificate for Christmas so I decided to make the trek out to Orchard Park last night to use it. I walked into the store with Target bags in hand (I shopped there previously to my Premier visit since it is right next door) and I walked around for about 5 minutes looking at wine. I chose three bottles, thatís how much I figured I would need to reach my $20 gift certificate amount, and went to the checkout line. I was told that I needed to show ID, which I gladly did. Then I was told that they needed to check the IDís of two other young gentlemen on the other side of the store. I was confused at first because I didnít understand how that had anything to do with me, but then just figured that they needed to finish out a previous transaction with a customer or something.
At this time a manager came to the checkout line and said that I could not make my purchase because I was buying alcohol for minors!! She said that the three of us walked in to the store together and ďgave each other a lookĒ, this was how she came to that conclusion. I was horrified! I would never, ever, do such a thing! I am a 33 year old professional woman, a School Counselor. I walked in to the store with a bunch of Target bags full of baby clothes, completely by myself!! This manager was supremely inappropriate and called me out in front of a handful of other customers, ostracized me and made me feel like a common criminal! I have never in my life been treated so poorly as a customer!
I stated how ridiculous the whole thing was and left the store. I promptly called the Customer Service line for Premier, and was put on the line with the same manager. She continued to berate me via telephone and when I continuously asked to speak to her supervisor all she would say was that SHE was the manager. I asked to speak to someone else in charge, so she put me on the line with another manager, her equal. I asked him for his supervisorís information. He said that the supervisorís name was Jeff and that he would be in tomorrow at 9am. When I asked him to have Jeff follow up with me regarding this incident he said, quite rudely, that if I wanted to speak to Jeff that I would have to call him myself. Whatís with these people?!?! Whatever happened to customer service???
I called Jeff this morning and he had already been briefed about what had happened. He explained that they really have to crack down on selling to under aged kids and that he has to support his staff when they make a judgment call. I explained to him that I also fully support this cause. As a School Counselor I try to ensure that all children make healthy and responsible decisions. This, of course, was not my issue. My issue lies with the way I was treated. Not once was I asked what happened. Nor was I pulled aside so that it could be discussed privately. It was never even properly explained to me what was going on!!! Or why I was being ďdeniedĒ. You canít go around treating people like that. Had it been myself in that situation I would have pulled the customer aside, explained things, and tried to get a feel for whether they were being truthful. The whole thing is absolutely preposterous to me! And, the only response I got from Jeff was that it was good timing that this happened because he is going to reevaluate procedures with his staff. Really?!?! THATíS supposed to make me feel better? He said that if I came in and asked for him he would help me pick out my wine and maybe give me a discount. Gee, thanks a lot! I donít even live anywhere near there, I made a special trip to use this gift certificate, and I never want to step foot in that place again after the way they made me feel. Thanks for nothing Premier Liquor. You have officially lost a customer for life and I will see to it that everyone I know stops going there as well.
