trying to find pics of fire-I own a home on Yellowtop but live in FL

I have land next to it I am forwarding email from our home owners association . I will be visiting next week end and try taking some pictures then but you can go to they have been running stories on it. Below is the latest email I received hope your property is undamaged. As Karen states below, I am also proud of the Golden Valley community. Can you believe how these good people come together in bad times? I have offered our assistance in any way needed to our neighbors on Yellow Top.

Jeanette and I will travel to our cabin Wednesday afternoon for a long weekend and to check out the damage. Please keep Yellow Top and the Golden Valley Community in your thoughts and prayers.
We are still getting information about the fire.I went to the meeting at Sunshine School this afternoon and spoke with Jack Hoppenstedt, the Yellowtop Mountain Estates Homeowner's Association President..
One house on Big Rock Road burned to the ground. Several homes were scorched and on Arbra Mountain Way a home is damaged beyond repair.(Their deck was very close to the ground with many leaves on and around it).
I am still being told 24 fire departments responded and, told there were between 300 and 400 firefighters on the mountain over night. They had it "contained" this morning and are continuing to watch it closely. I heard they intended to feed 110 firefighters dinner tonight at the school. Many of them will be staying another night.
Around 3:00 this afternoon homeowners were escorted onto the mountain with deputies . They were going to have about 30 minutes in their homes to gather things.
2 power poles and 21 powerpoles on Big Rock burned. The power is consequently off - they're working on it as fast as they can - they will not give an estimate as to when they will have it back on.
The community responded like you wouldn't believe. Food was served to the firefighters and EMS crews at the Sunshine Elementary school -- women baked and sent cakes, pizzas came in, hams, sandwich fixings, hotdog buns, Wal-Mart sent several pickup loads of bottled water -- It was enough to feed hundreds. They served breakfast, lunch and dinner - plus snacks and endless drinks.
The community members gathered at Cedar Grove Church too -- they opened the doors for evacuees, and started cooking. They served pretty much the same fare as the school, but with more baked goods. I understand they're serving ham dinners tonight.
The Red Cross has been on hand throughout -- all in all, this is an amazing community and I am proud to be a member of it.
We'll be on the mountain as soon as it's permitted, If you are in Yellowtop Mountain Estates and have damages I'll be in touch..

We own a lot up on Yellow Top and live in FL as well. We are praying and hoping no one was hurt in the awful fires and thank you Paul for posting info about it here!!! Everyone involved is in our thoughts and prayers.
I can't help but share though that ALL of the advertising for Yellow Top (especially post cards to Florida!!!) read, "EVERY LOT at Yellow Top Mountain Estates has underground utilities." When we shared with the salesman that we were pleased about this detail, he said, "Well up on top of a mountain like this, the wind is very powerful and there's just too much of a fire risk with poles and lines!" We closed through the mail and asked the attorney why we had seen poles and power lines even crossing the middle of a block diagonally (which seemed odd), and he said, "Well, you're not going to have underground utilities and that's that, do you want to cancel your closing?" We had already met with a lot of builders, visited many times, were so excited, we went forward... we shouldn't have! We also found out recently that we Floridians were SCAMMED! The locals would NEVER pay the prices we did there and they know we all over paid! They're nice, but not worth what we paid. We were targeted, believe that!
Sad, but true.

Glad to know you're alright. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you. We haven't gone much past your house because of respect for the residents, but because we've met you guys, we were concerned. Everything looks incredibly alright. [email protected]

In behalf of all who thought they were scammed. Those here and I could have told them they were being robbed we thought they had more money than they needed... didn’t we? The owners should have seen some of the property tax notices sent out to the area residents. I speak for those who got hurt from all the sales made on the Golden Valley Mountains. As well as other places. Also Yellow Top is in the Sunshine Area adjacent to Golden Valley.

We wish you WOULD have told us! Why on EARTH would you assume we have "more money than we need?" Who does other than the rich and famous? You know nothing about us, so it's sad that you do that!
Yes, we all got scammed, but we also helped your local economy QUITE A BIT by sustaining all the local builders and contractors while they gouged us with their unreasonably high prices! Now, it's all over with and business has DIED, especially the log home business. Don't worry, "WE" people who seem to have more money than you think we need, even though we've worked hard for every penny, will be fine! After all, what goes around comes around, doesn't it?
How were we to see "local tax bills?" Should we have randomly opened private mail boxes on any given day just to educate ourselves to YOUR predicament because WE were scammed? What did you pay extra, a few hundred dollars compared to our HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS lost?
Yeah, I feel badly for you! NOT!
