Bossier's seat moved in the dead of night
People who wonder why the seat of government in Bossier Parish is in Benton and not in Bossier City, 12 miles to the south, right on Interstate 20 and with a population of 61,315, should just count their blessings.

The court house was moved from Bellvue to Benton in the middle of the night many years before there was a Bossier city. Barksdale was put in place in 1932. At that time Bossier city had only one full time service station. After Barksdale the town began to grow.
