Why dont retailers use biodegradeable bags?

My family has been using our own bags for a couple of years now, and trust me, it is not hard to do! In a world full of pollution this is one simple thing that will make a large impact!

Social engineering strikes again. What a waste of time and effort. And the authors of this legislation probably think they are saving the world ... How about solving the real issues?

Now that I read the posts made by con dumbs, I'm in favor of it. Why don't con dumbs care about the environment? Why do they always whine, "PC"?

This is plain ignorance. The plastic bags ARE biodegradable! All the law does is to tell the retailers to charge a SEPARATE fee for bags; as if the costs aren't already factored into the items customers purchase. JUST A BUNCH OF JUVENILE LAWMAKERS TRYING TO GRAB HEADLINES FOR THEMSELVES!!!

The banning of single use paper bags from being given out for free is a definitely a step in the right direction. Plastic bags are given out too freely now, with cashiers putting every thing in a bag, even single items like an apple or a banana. Given that it is assumed that most people use over 130 bags each year, it is essential that everyone starts making changes to be more environmentally conscious. The majority of the plastic bags used are not even recycled and instead sent to landfills, or worse, they wind up on beaches, roads, and sidewalks. Not to mention the thousands of blastic bags flouting in the ocean and consequentially effecting marine life.
This new law is going is the first step in making California and plastic-bag-free state.

Just another way of reaching into my overly stretched butt hole in hopes taking a few more tax DOLLARS !!

They wont ban these bags but they are sure to attached a "Fee" aka TAX

Its a lot like the $8.00 additional "Fee" you play when purchasing a LCD Screen. They say its a recycling charge but the last I knew there was no redemption centers to get your money back when the stupid thing dies.

I say start dumpling your plastic bags into the ocean. Lets the sea life consume it. Fish love getting stuck in it like a mini-vacation

Trying to be efficient and earth friendly, we use the paper bags three times before they wind up in their final "resting place." The first use is to carry out the groceries (we also use canvas bags as well). Secondly, we use them to collect all the recyclable (bottles, egg cartons, cans, etc.) trash in the house and then it all goes to the recycle bin that the City trash service picks up. Lastly, and most importantly, we use them to pick up the dog poop.

Did someone mention placing the plastic bags over the legislators' heads? Now that is a good start.:)

Doesn't it just make you want to scream? Make (yet another) law to govern what should be common sense. And how many hours did the overly paid political suits put into figuring out just how to get a tax out of us while appearing to be concerned for "the environment".

But you know what? They know our nature and know that most will simply pay the tax rather than change.

This is just another expence/tax that we don't need based on junk-eco-science. I want the names of the idiots who support this garbage. They have no idea of the effect this has on some of us. I have not been active politically in the past, but those days are over.

One would think that the die hard liberals that come up with these laws would think long and hard about the ramifications of such laws. First, the people hurt the most by such laws are the people least able to afford them. For low income people, the price of obtaining food will be needlessly increasing once again. They wonder why so many low income people are obese - look at the stupid laws that they pass that raise the price of groceries needlessly. It often leaves you with little choice but eating lots of refined carbs. Lawmakers have absolutely no concern for the 30% of CA households that have food budgets of approximately $150 a month. Making stores charge for single use bags is not going to stop either the stores or the majority of consumers from using them. If they want the behavior of people to change, they need to run public service announcements targeted at specific demographics that speak to them in a way that makes them feel good about changing their behavior. Air time for PSA's should be free for the government since it is an obligation of having an FCC license. Passing another law that isn't going to be enforced, it just a waste of time and tax dollars.

maybe legalizing marijuana may help them think straight. we are being taxed to death. i see the coming of the second revolution.
