Lewis County Fair is by far the best. The people are friendlier, and it doesn't cost anything to enter it. If I have to leave the fair because of the weather or some other reason, I haven't lost anything. The Boonville fair is getting worst every year. Prices are going up and nothing new to see.

What is wonderful about the Lewis County Fair is that the entire town gets involved. The board has older and YOUNGER people on it. The parade is enormous and entry to the fair is free. People go all week long. I wish their board would come to town and show the fair board how to do it right. A friend of mine introduced me to their fair. It is worth the drive up for me!

Lets not make it sound like Boonville puts on a crapy fair. The Onieda County fair would suck no matter where in the county it was held. The same old turds run it and the newer commity members have no say.

I was at the Lowville Fair yesterday. Hate to be disloyal to the Boonville Fair, but I was impressed with Lowville's. Free admission is great for families. Boonville's fair board should rethink a few things!

LEWIS COUNTY FAIR!!! Free Admission and lots for my kids to do. There is no way I can afford the price at the Oneida Fair. I tried last year and found it cost too much. Entrance fees, food costs, no petting zoo, so big deal they had a wrist band day. It costs me a little more in gas but it is so much better to go to the Lewis County Fair. I live in the Boonville Area but can't take my kids there - not with the economy the way it is.

yeah, you want to buy fair food, you have to pay to spend $$... doesnt make any sense. I would go to the boonville fair more than once but they soak you for admission/ i know the vendors would do allot more bussiness if they didnt charge admission

I agree with you. I know some vendors as well and they've told me that they have to pay a small fortune to be able to sell their food at the fair. The Fair people say they have to charge so much because the insurance companies whack the Fair with outrageous costs. The insurance companies say it is all the frivolous law suits and the beat goes on and on and on.
All I want it a nice family Country Fair to take me kids to. Thus we now go to the Lewis County Fair. We went AGAIN today. Spent some money on food and games and rides. But NO ENTRANCE FEE helps us to be able to keep coming back. Boonville Oneida Fair just doesn't seem to understand that simple concept. All they want is money.

If you have more than one or two children to take to the fair, just go to Lowville. The cost savings at the gate will be huge. You could go everyday if you wish and they still will not charge you!

There are many ways to get away from charging admission at the gates and still come ahead. We could charge a few bucks for parking like they do at Lewis County Fair. The more people coming through the gates, the more money spent on games and food, the more cut the fair gets from Colemen. It seems to me someone isn't doing the math.

Here are some facts. Lewis County has a great fair, no doubt. The board of directors of both boards do a great job. Lowville found a way to make the fair admission free, that's excellent and they certainly do well. They have their act together and it shows.
A few things about Boonville: The local board members of the Boonville Fair work very hard and are as dedicated to the fair as are the members of the Lowville Fair. None of the regular board members in Boonville get paid, only the origional trustees.
Boonville cannot charge for parking because the school owns the lot and you cannot charge for parking on school grounds.
Unfortunatly the Boonville Fair is also the Oneida County fair, so politics of Oneida county is involved. The people in Utica-Rome do NOT support the Boonville fair. Most people in Utica go to the Herkimer county fair cause it's closer. The entire community gets behind the Lowville fair including local and Watertown radio, TV and newspapers. They get support from major businesses like Kraft who are in Lowville. Boonville gets support from the local radio station and newspapers...almost nothing from the Utica TV stations or newspapers and very little corporate support from the major businesses in UTica and Rome. Last year during the fair, WKTV was in Boonville to film the Erwin Library after the report that money was stolen from the Library. They were in town for a problem in town but the couldn't take the time that day to do anything from the fair which is one block away from where they were filming. But they did have time to do a live report from the Irish Festival in Herkimer Co.
It's easy to say that Boonville could have free admission but unless you see their books, you can't really know. So My suggestion to all you people bit*hing about the BOonville Fair, Join the fair board. Volunteer, help out instead of complaining. We have a good fair in this town and we should support it. Go to the fair on days kids get in free or senior day when seniors get in free or 1/2 price day. Please support your local fair and Have fun! It's still an excellent fair!

Oh for God's sake!!! JUST GIVE UP THE DAMN ADMISSION FEE!! I just got threw listening to the longest, most boring radio announcement on the radio on News Maker Sunday done by some woman who read the entire weeks gate fees, event prices, activities and events happenings. Why do they not get it??? Just drop the damn admission fee and people will gladly come there see what they want, when they want and SPEND their money. I like most people do NOT want to arrange my time and vacation around their 'sales' or 'free/reduced' admission days. JUST DROP THE DAMN FEE PEOPLE!

Join the fair board?????? Like it's that easy. Do you really think the board members on now want people who have ideas like dropping the gate admission? NOWAY they want yes people and puppets. They don't want anyone on the board that is going to give :neggitive ideas" like trying to help save families some money. People just can't afford things like they use to, and the fair should adjust to it. Grant it you are right Utica and other places don't support the ONEID county faif but, why should the people around here suffer for it. Maybe ask youself this, would I drive 30 plus miles from outside Boonville to go to a fair and have to pay to get in, when it a few weeks i could drive the same distance and pay to get into the "STATE" fair? Come on lets just face it the fair goes down hill every year and the board does NOTHING to help draw the people in. One other thing....... maybe just maybe the board should think about who is really getting hurt by all this.... THE KIDS because their parents have to tell them they can't afford to take them to something that is in their own TOWN for awhole week!!!!! as far as taking them on childrens day..... alot of parents can't get the time off from work to do so.

Agree! Also, we have alot of people in this community that can't afford to bring their kids to the fair because by the time they went through the admission gates they have dropped a bundle of money. Even though you have fed your children just before entering the gates they still want what they see other's having. They want fries, ice cream, popcorn, cotton candy, hotdog, and something to drink. I'm not saying my kids get it all but I do let them have a few things. If the admission fee was dropped we could afford to bring our children. Instead, we bring them to the Lowville Fair, and we'll travel to the New York State fair. When my children ask me why they can't go to the Boonville fair I tell them that we can't afford to pay to get through the gates. When their old enough to understand they will see that greed from some of our locals played a big part in why they didn't go to the Boonville Fair. Greed and politics are at the center of it.
