as to the above mentioned quote, my guess is that he finds people who have a genuine desire to get in the garage, that look like they would handle themselves in the garage correctly, and that would possibly have the resources to purchase these garage passes. But I could be wrong...

I received this gentlemans card this past weekend in Dover at the race and I accidentally misplaced his card. Does anyone have his number that I will be able to reach him at in August before the next Dover race in September?

Is this person for real? Will I really get the chance to meet my driver like he says?
I misplaced his card and I remembered the elephant place and it brought up this site, so that makes me really wonder if this is legit..

just read the above comments and decide for yourself. Although I have yet to call on him for the passes, there are a few here who vouch for the man. When I met him, I thought that he was completely genuine, and from what research I have done, that appears to be the case. Give him a call, be prepared to PAY for your passes (NASCAR doesn't give them away), and just maybe you'll get to see a race from a whole different perspective.

I met Mr. Mahaffey in Daytona on July 5,2008. He asked me where was I from and what did I do for a living. Then asked me what races do I attend. i told him Daytona,Atlanta,Bristol,Tallad ega. He asked which race was I going to next. I told him hopefully Bristol in August. He said call me 2-3 weeks before I go. So I'll call him and see what happens.

I think Stephen likes to see people who are enjoying the experience. For sure, Michael(88Jr. Fan) and I were having a large time in the fan zone when I was approached by Stephen. He gave me his card and asked that I call him before the Atlanta race in October. He said Tony the #20, which was of course my favorite driver was coming to work with him. Yes, I was wearing the Orange #20 shirt!!!! Anyway, he said he would set me up for the Atlanta race and he would be on my Christmas list! Well, Stephen seems like a great guy. I will let everyone know how it goes!!

My wife also received a card from Mr Mahaffey in the pit area at MIS this past weekend. As I was running back and forth chasing drivers for pictures and autographs, I looked over and saw her conversing with a man smoking a cigar, and thought it was one of the owners. Come to find out like everyone else here, he gave her a card and told us to call a month in advance of the next race she attended. It was like a mystersy. She said he seemed really friendly and inquisitive.

As many have said, and as I can attest, Mr. Stephen Mahaffey is "The Real Deal". My previous post tells when I met him (2006, I think) and now I consider him a friend. His connections with NASCAR seem to go way back; back to Junior Johnson at least. He's been there since he was a boy. He knows everybody, gives out cigars in the garage, and I'm proud to know him. I hope he doesn't read this and get embarrassed, but he IS a great guy.

This Mr. Mahaffey sounds like a character I met in the early 80's. He must be aout 60 now if it's the same one. We dated for a while, but I always smelled a rat. Yes, he was interested in racing at that time ( he was a big fan and groupie of Junior Johnson). At that time his big thing was Ronald Regan. He told me he was a secret service agent assigned to protect Regan during the campaign. He always talked about a friend of his named "Laney". He was living in Winston Salem at that time. Since he was also a friehd of Jesse Helmsn he arranged for my school ( I was an elementary teacher at the time) to receive a flag that had flown over the US . When Regan won the election, he invited me to attend the Innaugration as his guest. I had to go through security clearance, etc. However, on the day he was supposed to pick me up he was a no-show and I never heard from him again. The phone numer I had been calling him on was never answered. This was before caller ID, answewring machines or voice mail. I suffered a lot of embarassment because of this man. He's a nut and mentally ill. If it is the same person, it sounds like he's still up to his old tricks and needs to be locked up in an insane assylum. I just wonder how he makes so much money to be able to afford all of this expensive travet. He certainly never spent anything on me!

Sounds to me that your just jealous and upset you couldn't get your paws all over his money.Sucks to be you.I have spoken with Mr. Mahaffey a few times and he is a very nice man and I think others that have met him feel the same way except for you!

Larry hit the nail on the head about this gentleman. I followed his instructions and met up with him at Kansas. The matter of money never came up in any of our conversation so I didn't get caught off guard until I met up with him at the credentials office. I wasn't prepared to pay the $675 at that time but I may try to contact him again if I ever get that kind of disposable income cash. Having to pay for this crossed my mind several times but since he never brought it up in the four different conversations with him, I thought it was one of those once in a lifetime experiences. My sister ran into a great contact and received 2 garage passes at Michigan two years ago from a different person tied in with Georgia/Pacific and Kyle Petty. Anyway, it only cost me some time and getting laughed at by some friends for thinking this guy was going to pay for a garage pass for me. Yes, I was disappointed but this guy is for real. He is very nice and like I said before, prepare to pay big bucks to be able to experience what he has to offer. If you've got it, go for it. I just wasn't prepared to double my cost for the race weekend at Kansas. Larry wrote: Ok here is the deal. Yes he is real. Just like everyone else he gave me a card back in chicago and told me to call him. I happened to see him in Dover and he actually remembered me. Nice touch. So time came to contact himm for Homestead. He as the ability to submit applications for nascar credentials. This means all access exept for the drivers motorhomes. You can even stay down and watch the race from the pits if you like. Next year the price goes up but this year the actual price was like 675 dollars and he was able to get them for 400. That is quite a deal for all access. Not sure what the price is for next year but I am sure you still get a similar discount. And for some of you that think well why dont he just give them out. Nascar does not give anything away. They are a corporation and a successful one. But the fact that he gets them discounted makes me wonder if he does not eat some of the cost. Still one very nice man that I think wants some people to get the same experience once in their life that he gets everyweekend. So until Daytona everybody be safe. And I never thought I would hear myself say GO 88!!!!!! Man am I gonna miss the red 8.
