Not if I can help it Concerned. What we end up with is the worst of both worlds.. Bad English and Bad Spanish. "Spanglish" English is the glue that held this country together. Even broken English is better than nothing. If you or I were to go to any other non English speaking country, we would not be so accomodated with extra signs, phone books, driving tests or voting ballots in several languages. The sooner those sleazy politicians stop pandering for votes, the sooner this country can become more productive. It worked for my grandparents and for many other ethnic groups who refuse to get caught up in this bi lingual mess. The wise immigrants make sure their children learn English to reap the full benefits this country has to offer. The lazy freeloaders will stay at the bottom and feed off us taxpayers. It's a real mess.

What a bunch of ignorant comments. First, of all IT IS PORTUGUESE, not spanish, not english, much worse spanglish. Second, as far as I am concerned EVERY KID of immigrants parents that come to America learn the English language at a appropriate time. The big difference here is that the NEW wave of immigrant kids know that being bilingual is a privilege that gives us a great advantage over the kids that ONLY speak one simple language and are not ashame of their backgrounds. For example, I went to school with so many proud Italians that could not even say hello in italian. That is the big difference. Let's not forget that this is America, land of freedom and also land of immigrants. English is and should always be the official language but there is nothing wrong with being fluent in another language.

SMP,

I may not be fluent by your standards but I think it's pretty good considering that it is not my first nor second language. And, "judging from your comment", you should work on your punctuation.

Why? This country has been created by immigrants. Kurwa.

I'm Native American. Why don't you speak MY language? Ignorant...would've fit for you to say "Speak F American".
