Fear the Quarantines! Inspections are coming!
The Moth has caused no damage in CA according to the cdfa. This is a crop quality issue that affects only trade. LBAM is not a pest of concern anywhere in the world where it is found (New Zealand 120 year, Hawaii 100+years, UK 100+ years, CA for 30+ years, Tasmanian native) and can be easily controlled by IPM strategies.
Synthetic pheromone twist-ties have never been tested for efficacy in urban areas, are not approved for urban areas, and never on human subjects. Allowing twist-ties and ANY control measures outside of agriculture for a pest that is admittedly impossible to eradicate is an experiment on all of us.
Populations of LBAM are not expanding. Trapping is simply uncovering populations that have long been here. Trapping began in earnest only in 2007. LBAM has been trapped at our ports for more than 20 years without causing damage to any crop or native species.
Be informed and ask the real questions of the cdfa and your Farm Bureau. Ask for proof of damage, where are the efficacy studies for the twist-ties in ag. and in urban areas, LBAM is not a crop destroyer, quarantines and the cdfa are. Protest the quarantines, do not sign agreements to allow access to your property, and save your farm.
