She means business

Kathleen Walters will not be a "yes woman" on the Bonita Springs Utilities board.

BSU does not have a good record in communicating with its members/public. It places obstacles between its board and the public who elected them.

As a result, BSU has been prone to major mistakes. One such mistake is the gross overbuilding of wells and facilities. Thus we are all paying for this excessive water capacity.

Another is the lack of competitive bids for a wider water pipe on Michigan Street to support fire hydrants. Due to this recent negligence the pipe wasn't put in.

A third is the wasting of members' money by printing glossy annual reports.

A fourth is not pushing electronic billing assertively.

A fifth is the sweetheart deal where the nonprofit BSU supplies Resource Conservation Systems with our reclaimed BSU water at ridiculously low rates. RCS pays BSU 34 cents per 1,000 gallons, then charges the city $1.89 per 1,000 gallons for an obscene profit. Members pay $3.66 for water and $3.70 to flush it back to BSU. Is the RCS deal improper and illegal?

Walters' aim is to open communications between BSU and its members. Simply being for "lower rates" is not enough. To get better service at lower cost, the farce of BSU — a publicly regulated water monopoly masquerading as a private company — must stop!

Walters is the only candidate who can get to the root cause

Walters is the only candidate who can get to the root causes of BSU problems and work hard to fix them.

Vote for independence

I will not be a “yes woman” on the Bonita Springs Utilities board.

I will strongly push for a Ratepayer Bill of Rights which will include:
1. No automatic rate increases.
2. All projects to be put out for competitive bids.
3. Electronic billing to save on paper, postage and time.
4. Push BSU to install higher capacity water pipes as the opportunities arise. Upgraded pipes will enable the installation of fire hydrants to save lives.
5. I will seek to terminate the immoral sweetheart deal for the sale of decontaminated sewer water.
6. Open up communications with the BSU member public. I will also push to televise board meetings and help members who have trouble getting information and records from BSU.

In closing I ask for your vote for the BSU board and would be happy to hear from any one of you with your thoughts and concerns and recommendations.
