For all holmes County residents, we all need to be more aware of the goings on at our local nursing home. I was in there just the other day visiting my mom,( im not going to use her name for obvious reasons), i am livid at the way i found her all sprawled out with her gown up around her waist and her door wide opened! I watched several employees just walk by her room and ignore her crying for help, she cant use her call button to ask for help anymore but she can yell and cry and they all can here her. you bet they have not heard the last of me, im sending some under-cover people in that place to get the real dirt on whats going on, think what they are doing when nobody is around to watch! Be aware! Tell your story!
thank you

It's about time someone comes to the rescue. I am very sorry to hear about your mom, but maybe you can make positive changes because of it.The corporate office for the nursing home is in Casselberry Fl. The phone number can't be posted as a rule of TOPIX. This nursing home is managed by a company called Southern Health Care. Also you can call 1-800-96 abuse This is the number to report elderly abuse. Good luck to you and your mother. Keep posting so we can give you moral support.

My grandmother was in there but we took her out before she died. She was not able to get up herself and they would bring her tray and set it on her bed table out of her reach. When the aides came by to gather the trays, they would take hers (untouched) and not bother to feed her. When we came by to visit daily, we would ask if she had eaten well that day and they would always say yes, she ate a big meal. We would never have known if her roommate had not told us that she hadn't eaten in days.

That is so sad. Sad that any human could do that to another, even sadder that they are getting paid to do it. Im sincereley worried. I did call the abuse hotline. Thank you so much, maybe all of us together can help, these are our elderly, our family and they need us.

For every horror story there may be many satisfied people. Check it out. Mrs. Drummond is a nice lady.

my father spent only two days and one night. my mother got him out ASAP last year and that was when there was old management. i understood them to have new management now. im sorry to hear all of your stories. they just let my father walk the halls unsupervised and he fell and they just left him there. I RECOMMEND CHATACHQUA IN DE FUNIAK SPRINGS HIGHLY. they took good care of my father this year. i really cant spell it that well. they also lost some of my fathers' clothing at bonifay. so keep a check on their clothing. the meds they have them on also. ask to see their charts. in de funiak springs they are very nice and helpful and cooperative. they also let the family know everything that is going on with your loved one.

I too have a horror story. My grandmother was at this nursing home and recieved horrible treatment. She was constantly having yeast infections, due to not being bathed properly, she had to be put on a feeding tube, because they didn't have the time to stop gossiping and make sure all patients have eaten. My grandmother was bed-ridden and eventually died there this past Feb, she was ther approx 6-8 months before this happened. Several times my family and I made complaints and chewed out the staff and directors. I hope you can get some help for those that are there. I know it is not the best job in the world, but these people go into that field, might as well do your best or get out.

Thank You baroness for letting me know lol is not to be taken seriously, sounds like an idiot. Thank you also grandaughter, you are right there should be absolutly no horror stories, The management at the nursing home has been the same for at least the past three years (i did check that) rumor has it the place has gone down hill, they lost alot of there best nurses in the last two years, that makes you wonder why? Also lots of people moved their family out in recent years. even ones who had been there a long time.
thank you

I am very sorry to hear about the bad experiences your families have endured. I know first hand how this place runs. I used to be a nurse there. All I can say is THANK GOD that I was able to move on to a much better job. I would rather dig a ditch full of dog crap than to ever have to work there again.

Now this is very interesting and not what i was expecting! I heard they were going to shut bonifays nursing home down last year. I'm surprised to hear they didn't. The local news paper wont print all the negative (true) things that have happened there in the past couple of years because the nursing home 'contributes' to the paper and in return they only print the positive, which there hasn't been much of since the montroys left! So how are people going to hear the truth? this is a great little thread, i'm staying!

I use to work at bonifay nursing and rehab, off and on for about 15 years, i know the Montroys personally and Larry Montroy and Vicky Jimmerson were the finest bosses a person could ever ask for. Vicky was the DON for several years, she would not just sit around on her butt trying to act important, she actually knew the residents and would assist in hands on resident care in a heart beat. Thats what a person working in geriatrics has got to have in their heart, a willingness and a genuine love for the job. the DON they have now is not even a local, she has burned her bridges everywhere else and is hiding out in Bonifay til somebody notices she is a lazy, money-grubbing incompetent who can't keep the place staffed with good nurses. Just go see for yourself, there are very few if any persons who are familiar with the new management who will not agree!

I worked at Bonifay nursing and Rehab when it was Mariner Health of Bonifay and when it became bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center. The Montroys and their entire department head crew were the best management that place has seen since the original owners of the place. You could not ask for a better boss. Loving caring DON who did not mind hands on resident care. I dont know whatever else they did but i do know the residents and staff loved them. Tears were shed the day they left and i for one miss the place that use to be.

Im truly not aware of these things. I wouldn't be shocked and that would not be right, but compared to what they have now i'd take some embezzelment and whatever else they had going on, i tell you i was there on a daily basis and the entire atmosphere was cheery, workers were happy and people who are happy with the job and the boss do a much better job which equals better care for the elderly....whatever it takes. In a perfect world we would have honest montroys.
I know sometime back in 2007 the workers were trying to get rid of the current administrator and DON by getting a union started and they fired like 30 people maybe alot more to put an end to it. I have friends who are still working there who wanted management to go also but were afraid of being fired thereselves so they just sat back and hoped the other workers could do it without them, there is still a lawsuit pending.

Nurse63, you are absolutely right. The Nurseing home was a great place to work when the Montroys had it. The residents got excellent care and the employees were happy. It was ashame that greed got in the way and a sad day for the nurseing home. It hasn't been the same since.

O.K, i found the solution. Graceville nursing home is beautiful! The staff are so friendly and the place smells like a home not the sewer. Does anybody out there know anything about graceville and their management? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Abuse does not follow up well on complaints about nursing homes, they come check and the DON blows alot of hot air, lays down her practiced speech and defense and all is well. Its a money making scheme and one hand is washing the other. Bonifays corporate is crooked thats why they put crooks in charge, an honest person would not do in there.
