Does anyone remember Shaun Horton that use to be Barton's partner in Holmes County? If so then lets not try to smear Jeromes name by calling him a wife chaser, homewrecker and so on....thanks come again!!

I have stayed off this site and addressed this to the Holmes County EMS personnel through official channels. But for those not privy to those comments let me just say this. The selection process for the new EMS Director was not easy. I want to bring the EMS to a higher level of unquestionable quality. It is going to take many things for that to happen. However, that does not mean Wilburn Baker failed. He saved hundreds of lives and gave a lot folks their start. He needs to be respected for the 30 years he has put in and for the progress he brought to the service including establishing ACLS. It also does not mean Greg Barton is not an outstanding medic. He is a part of the plan for bringing this EMS to the next level. For that matter, hopefully every Medic and EMT will put this behind them and work as a team to assure every patient that they lay their hands on has the best treatment out there. How we will get there will involve setting higher standards for training and testing. If a medic needs refresher in an area, everyone can be assured it will be provided. We have had a rough couple of months, but it is time to move on and move forward. Thanks to everyone who has backed the EMT’s and Medics who put it out there 24 / 7.

Mr Wood said it very well.I think most of the derogatory comments were made more out of someone having personal anger for others on this page.I think any of the candidates would have made a good director. It is sad that something like a position like this has split a good service full of good employees.I really hope that now a decision has been made that people can put this behind them and move on in the same direction.Everyone should remember if they feel there is a weak link ina chain it is just as much our fault if its not corrected as the weak link itself.A little competiton is ok but hatred is ridiculous,im off this subject myself

Well "juiced" actually I do remember Shawn(by the way you mispelled his name)Lets see where to start. Ah, yes 1987 Shawn and I graduated high school together. 1989 we were married and had a son the same year. Moved to Bonifay from Panama City around 1991 or 1992. Yes Shawn worked for HCEMS ,and Yes he was Gregs partner. Now what one must realize is we were very young when we married. It didn't take long to figure out we were better as friends, so Shawn moved back to PC. After a 2 year separation we got divorced. Greg was not the reason for the divorce.Oh by the way Shawn dated other people during that 2 year separation, which was fine since we had both moved on. Just as you should move on from your sh-- stirring. In Feb. 1995 Greg and I were married. Shawn,Greg and myself all get along very well, and if you really knew Shawn then you would know this. There you go "juiced" straight from the source. Now you know the story. Feel better?? Furthermore just because "someone" said something about Jerome doesn't give you the right to trash innocent people. Just a thought ..why don't you post under your real name?? If you're big enough to type it, then you should be big enough to admit it!! There are great people at HCEMS, WCEMS and WCFR. I am very proud of the job they do, not everyone has it in them to be in public service. They deserve our thanks , not to be bashed by bloggers using bogus names.

I agree with Lisa.Actually if this "Juiced " person really knew anything about the whole deal,They would know that Lisa is a lot better off .I know Greg and he is a super good guy.He is a good dad to both of his boys.I dont see why anyone would got back to the stone ages to try to throw up dirt on someone when it gets right down to it,Its there business. I really think ive said enough on this page as it is a waste of time,Ive put my real name because im not ashamed of what I say.if youll look Lisa put her name ,Greg Wood put his........hmmmmmmm ive never met anyone named Juiced, double deuce,etc......Many people hide because they wont say things to peoples face.Im done this is a silly waste of time. Its time for these people to move on and stop trying to cause drama for others,Im done with this thread.

I have been reading this forum for about 3 or 4 days now and what started out as a question of ethics for the use of a cell, has turned into one hell of a circus within this county and others surrounding. I have noticed a lot of people who have came on here and put their two cents has no clue about the people involved, the EMS profession and the life that we live. I started out with HCEMS as Non-E transport personnel, which by the way I was the first one to work in this position when it first started. Wilburn Baker came to me when I was working at Jerkins Inc. and asked me if I would like to have the job. I gladly accepted the position. Not to mention that himself and Joann paid for my EMT school due to me not having the money to go and wouldn’t accept a dime of it back. The Baker’s are great people and he has helped and served this county for many years. Do I think it was time for Wilburn to leave? Yes I do. Nothing against him or anything but it is a time for change within HCEMS service. I left Holmes County, I believe in 2003, to go work for Walton County. The only reason I left is the fact that I took a $16,000 a year raise going over there. Yes I do believe that there was a lot of anger when I left and 5 others did as well. There were bad things said about me and a few others but I won’t go there. I tried a couple years ago to come back part-time but that didn’t happen. But its water under the bridge. Now on to some of the BS that has been said on here. I have personally known majority of the people that has been based on here. While some of it is true and some not, it should have never been posted on this forum for everyone to see. Greg Barton is one of the best people that I know. I had the privilege to work with him and hope to do so again one day. Matter of fact he wrote me a letter of recommendation when I went to Medic school. Would have Greg made a good director for this service? Yes I do believe he would have done great. He is a great Medic and well known around this county. On the other hand I can’t argue with the selection of Jerome. I have worked under Jerome in Walton County and let me tell you he is great. Very well educated and knows the business like the back of his hands. He has successfully run his own businesses and as a supervisor for Walton County done the things the director in Holmes County does. So in my opinion Mr. Wood and the BCCC made the right decision due o the fact that he has a lot of experience in management. From what I understand is that Greg will be his assistant? Not sure how true that is but if it is then you will see this service explode for the good. Both men are exceptional people and will make a good team. The bashing of the employees that work for HCEMS or any other service for that matter is downright disgraceful and unprofessional. We are in the public’s eyes 24/7. What if a citizen reads this forum and has to call 911 for something and one of the people mentioned on here shows up? How do you think they going to feel knowing that the person standing in front of them has been ridiculed by their fellow co-workers? I know I damn sure wouldn’t want them working on me.

Just when I thought it was bad over in Walton County, I read all this and I feel lucky to be over there and out of all this. Since Jerome or even if Greg got the position, I was going to re-apply back in Holmes County. But right now I believe that would be a bad idea. If all those with animosity towards Jerome for getting the position would give him a chance, you will see a big difference in this service. Everyone needs to remember, no matter what county or agency you work for in the EMS or Fire field we are all family. It takes special and dedicated people to do what we do. Especially the volunteers that gets up in the middle of the night to respond on calls and leave their families at home. People make mistakes. This is a very stressful job and tempers flare and things are said that don’t need to be said. There is no need in calling someone’s name out on here about who they are sleeping with or anything about their past. We don’t know everyone’s situation and what goes on at home. Let everyone have their privacy and keep your nose out of it. I have made mistakes and everyone sitting here reading this has. We are human. I love my job and can’t think of anything else I rather be doing except for fishing for a living. If no one doesn’t know a man by the name of Bobby Kemp then you should get to know him. He has just retired from Walton County as the oldest EMT in the state of Florida. Started in 1977 as a volunteer in Paxton. That man has shared many stories with me and I have felt honored to have worked with him. You think it’s bad now then you guys don’t know anything. People like him are dedicated to this profession and I know some of you out there are too. Anyway I didn’t mean to get on here and ramble on but this has gotten ridiculous. Just remember the guy next to you when you go to work is your partner. You may have gotten on here and bashed him behind his back but keep in the back of your mind that you have o depend on him at times. I know I have had my ass saved at times and I know that I have saved my partners ass as well. Try to remember this. From the locker room at the football field when I played there: “What we see here, what we hear here, stays here when we leave here” Respect your fellow co-workers and not bash them. Confront them to their face if you have a problem. Better results will come from it. Anyway…DAMN I am done!! Tell I am bored on a Friday night!!
