We will be moving to the area next school year and have three kids that will be attending schools in Bonham. After stumbling upon this site, I am worried. I know gossip sites aren't always the best resource, but they will tell you a lot about the state of things. Are there any positives about the Bonham schools? My kids will be at Jr. High and High School.

Like all schools it has its strengths and weaknesses. There are many great teachers who love their job and the children they teach. This is definitely not the place to seek truth. Too many on here want to argue for the sake of arguing.

The BISD is in the 1st year of major changes. Change is not easy in Bonham Texas, but by this time next year all the change will be a positive for the future. We have a new superintendent, the school board will have at least 2 new members, changes are being made almost everyday and for the better. Every school district has it's pros and cons, BISD is going in the right direction, trying to make this the best school district not only in the county but the state as well. If you can be a little patient with the changing of the guard I think you will be satisfied with the results.

I have 3 kids in BISD schools. 2 have reached HS. Overall I have been pleased with the education they have gotten. Most teachers are good and care about the kids. There have been a few duds along the way, but you will get that where ever you go.

The down side to putting your kids at Dodd City or one of the smaller schools in the county is there will be less opportunities for certain classes at jr high and high school and less activities too. For example, BHS offers forensic science class, interior design, cosmetology classes, etc that I am not sure the smaller schools offer. Some of the smaller schools don't have football, volleyball and other activities that BHS does offer.

Another positive of BISD - all high school students are given lap tops. This year they have also expanded it to junior high too. It's helped kids get better with technology, which is important in pretty much whatever you do in the future. My dr and dentist offices have both gone paperless, as have other workplaces.

At least 2 new board members? Todd and Dawn will be the only 2, Jim is already on the board.

Not sure if its the same situation now but in the 90's, BHS was two grade levels above dodd city in some core courses. The 8th graders at L.H. Rather were supplied the same "algebra" textbook as the 10th graders at Dodd city.
